💭What is Sensory Processing Disorder?💭
Sensory Processing Disorder is a neurological condition where the brain struggles to organize and respond to information from the senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, balance, and body awareness). It can cause over-sensitivity (hyper-responsivity) or under-sensitivity (hypo-responsivity) to stimuli, leading to extreme discomfort, developmental, and behavioral challenges.
📋Why might I want to seek an assessment?📋
You might want to access a sensory assessment to understand why you or your child are having difficulty processing daily sensory input, which can lead to behaviours such as extreme emotional distress, meltdowns, or social withdrawal – traits we often see in neurodiverse people.
🤷♀️Where do I go from here?🤷♀️
Well, the short answer is that Mantle Psychology can help: our sensory assessment uses standard tools, along with clinical observation, to identify issues in sensory processing, motor skills, visual perception, and self-care. Following this, the assessment report will provide insight, support, and suggestions for adaptations to help you move a bit smoother through life.
