Using the body’s immune system to fight cancer has been a long-standing goal.

The immune system is highly sophisticated and designed to detect subtle differences between cells and distinguish between “self” and “foreign”.

While still in its early days, researchers are looking to develop an “off-the-shelf" immunotherapy that can be used to treat a broad range of cancer patients.

This article is a refreshing rethink of an approach to treat cancer that’s often viewed as “an academic exercise”, but with the recent developments in vaccines and delivery systems, merits a further closer assessment of its potential.

Alzheimer’s Disease continues to be one of the most devastating diseases with limited treatments for those diagnosed with this condition.

Researchers continue to seek insights into how to slow the progression and ultimately prevent this disease.

Using mesenchymal stroma cells from bone marrow, researchers have developed a treatment (Lomecel-B) and conducted a Phase IIb study demonstrating the slowing of disease progression in patients with a mild form of the disease.

Read more here: https://www.europeanpharmaceuticalreview.com/news/187377/stem-cell-therapy-delivers-potential-in-alzheimers/

Top-line Phase IIa data has shown an allogeneic stem-cell therapy enabled a lack of deterioration in cognitive signals in mild Alzheimer’s.

Did you know cannabis contains over 100 cannabinoids?

These are the naturally active constituents of the cannabis plant that bind to receptors throughout the body to produce a broad range of effects.

Because formal clinical trials in humans have not been performed to determine the benefits and risks the THC containing cannabis is not authorised as a medicine.

Whilst cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant or synthetic cannabinoids are used widely as healthcare / OTC products, many other THC-containing products are not authorised as medicines, and are under scientific/clinical investigation for the treatment of a number of medical conditions.

Despite our lack of understanding of the mode of action of cannabis, published research has highlighted its impact on conditions ranging from Type 2 diabetes to autism and skin disorders.

The use of medicinal cannabis to treat currently poorly managed conditions will continue to be debated, whilst targeted clinical studies are in progress for other conditions deemed more commercially viable.

Read about the latest cannabis research here: https://cannabishealthnews.co.uk/2023/09/21/new-cannabis-research-cancer-type-2-diabetes-autism-fibromyalgia-and-skin-disorders/

New research suggests cannabis may reduce risk of type 2 diabetes, other studies shed light on fibromyalgia, autism and skin disorders.

Va**ng has reached record levels in the UK, especially among teens and young adults. But what do we really know about it’s impact on our lungs...

Let's take a closer look!

🫁 Clinical insights: Va**ng may be less harmful than traditional ci******es, but it's not risk-free.

Studies have shown that exposure to va**ng aerosols can lead to irritation of the respiratory tract, potentially resulting in symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath.

💨 Va**ng-related lung injuries: In recent years, there has been an emergence of va**ng-related lung injuries (VALI), characterised by a spectrum of respiratory symptoms ranging from a mild cough to severe respiratory distress.

🚭 Smoking cessation: V**e pens came as a potential saviour for smokers and studies suggest that they can help individuals quit or reduce smoking. However, the long-term effects are unknown and continued research is essential.

Check out our comprehensive analysis on the health impacts of va**ng here: https://woodleybioreg.com/va**ng-in-the-uk-a-comprehensive-analysis/

Medical cannabis was legalised in the UK five years ago, but the government hasn't really lifted the barriers for doctors prescribing whole-plant or raw cannabis on the NHS.

Our principal consultant Dr Ash Ramzan has client meetings in Lisbon this week where the climate is perfect for cannabis crop agriculture, making Portugal one of the leading producers of high-quality cannabis in Europe.

Because of this, the medicinal cannabis industry is more matured and better supported with analytical testing capabilities; something the UK industry lacks.

Woodley BioReg partners with organisations seeking regulation and licence counsel to cover both cultivation and possession of medicinal cannabis, and remain at the forefront of regulatory advice and guidance.

Please get in touch if we can assist with your regulatory and compliance requirements.

We’re currently in Suzhou attending China BioMed Innovation and Investment Conference! ✈️

The past two days have been jam-packed with discussions and networking.

It’s been great to work with the UK Embassy staff and Department of Business and Trade and meet Chinese companies with existing and new products destined for UK licensure.

With over 10 individual meetings and numerous discussions around the options to support UK product registrations, we’re looking forward to starting to support our Chinese colleagues and returning to meet those we were not able to during this trip.

We’ve always known and are often reminded that taking exercise is good for both body and mind.

Now researchers have found that Irisin, a muscle-derived hormone, is present at reduced levels in people with Alzheimer’s.

There’s growing evidence that exercise can reduce amyloid beta deposits through the presence of Irisin.
