With the schools going back we may feel relieved or sad. No judgment here😀.

I love this time of year. As we head to Autumn, I often think of new beginnings.

My first Courage Circle is opening soon.

A small (8 people), focused, group experience for leaders and business owners to share their challenges and successes. We’ll blend facilitation and learning, with peer support.

You’ll gain knowledge, clarity and specific actions to accelerate your leadership.

Our aim? Build more courageous leaders.
Our offer? Knowledge. Expertise. Compassion. Space.
Our ask? Contribution. Compassion. Feedback.
Your investment? 90 minutes of session time. Plus, feedback and reflection time.

There is no financial investment to Courage Circles. There is however a resource and energy commitment.

If you’re interested in joining the first Courage Circle, drop me a message and we can share the details.

The first topic will be strategic thinking.

Great reminder from International Coaching Federation .

A good coach won't tell you what to do. They'll equip you with the tools and guidance you need, to reach your own solution.

A good coach will also be clear of their offer, at the discovery stage.

My solution to your issue may work for me but without living in your context, how can I be sure it'd work for you?

This was definitely one of the hardest lessons from coach training. I love 'helping' 🤭.

There absolutely is a place for telling or advice giving, but I see that as mentoring or teaching.

What do you think?

We love thinking about compassion at Cultivate Courage.

In our recent blog, we have explored how the Coaching With Compassion model, can encourage clients to dig deep and explore dreams.

It starts with a question.

What do you want? What do you really, really want?

Today I’m celebrating two big milestones: 🍰 My birthday ✨ One whole year of being fully self-employed, running Cultivate Courage.

This time last year, I was preparing to leap from the safety of employment into the unknown. I’d been running Cultivate Courage alongside my day job for a while, but something in me knew it was time to go all in.

I was afraid and excited at exactly the same time. Turns out, that’s my new normal. Most days, actually 🤭.

I didn’t realise how central courage would become—not just in my work, but in how I lead, live, and connect.

Over the past year, Cultivate Courage has grown into something I’m deeply proud of. I’ve worked with brilliant organisations and inspiring individuals to support:

Human-centred leadership development – because who we are is how we lead

Courageous coaching – because one question can change everything

Transformational mentoring – because a gentle steer from experience goes a long way

Health & wellbeing strategy – because evidence and direction-setting save time and money

Positive Intelligence – because emotions are contagious, and relationships matter

Change management – because if we don’t spend time attending to fears and feelings of humans in change, we’ll spend more time managing the associated behaviours.

My biggest fear was being lonely. But I’ve met the most generous, thoughtful people—clients, collaborators, mentors, and peers—who’ve reminded me that business can be deeply human.

If you’ve ever wondered whether I could help you or your organisation, I’d love to hear from you.

And since it’s my birthday, I’m gifting a tool I designed to help pause, reflect, and respond with intention—especially in moments of complexity, overwhelm, or change. This has been massive for my existing clients.

We've had a brilliant week meeting lots of new faces and catching up with old ones, through networking and attending CPD.

Life long learning is one of the principles of Cultivate Courage. This week we were learning about AI from the incredible team at AIMAI.

Also caught up with Fay from Dolphin Heating LTD to present her prize for winning the Yorkshire Dialect Quiz, we ran for . Well done Fay 🎉.

Who said summer holidays were quiet?

Another great opportunity to learn from these experts in their fields.

Last year we shared research from the Chartered Management Institute, highlighting 82% of managers had not had formal leadership training.

They are known as accidental managers. Promoted to management positions, due to being great practitioners.

The CMI has done a recent LinkedIn poll asking what support managers need most in today's tough economic climate. The results were:

Clearer communication - 46%
Mental health support - 30%
Training in crisis leadership - 22%
Other - 2%

In our experience training leaders and managers, communication is huge, or rather, the lack of it.

We think we are being kind by avoiding difficult conversations but the opposite is true.

In the words of Brené Brown:

"Clear is kind. Unclear is unkind."

No leader likes to upset their team but this should not be a case to avoid clear, honest, communication.

You can absolutely share difficult messages, in a kind and compassionate way.

Yes it will feel uncomfortable.

Imagine how uncomfortable it will feel in a few months time, when you have to deal with the fall out of your lack of communication.

Trust us, we have been there 😣.

There is absolutely a skill to communication but the good news is, practice helps.

What's your tip for managing tricky conversations?

At the recent , we were thinking about the importance of connection in workplaces.

We spend so much time at work. There is a real opportunity to make workplaces healthier and more connected. Improving results for the employee and the business.

We take a strategic approach to workplace health. Have a look at our recent blog to learn why.
