Paxman Scalp Cooling

Paxman Scalp Cooling The global leader in scalp cooling. We help cancer patients worldwide to retain their hair during chemotherapy

When Sue Paxman lost her hair while receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer, her family shared her distress. Sue's husband, Glenn Paxman founded Paxman on the back of this experience and to this day we remain a close family business. Knowing first-hand the effects that both cancer and its treatment can have on patients, friends and families, our business is much more than just a job. We aim to make a difference to people’s lives by raising awareness about scalp cooling and establishing it as a common practice for all patients undergoing treatment. As the leading global manufacturer and supplier of scalp cooling equipment, we work in partnership with medical professionals, research centres, cancer support groups, charities and patients to continually improve our technology. Investing in scientific testing and development has allowed us to attain outstanding technical precision and the highest levels of clinical efficacy. We strive to gain further knowledge and understanding of hair loss prevention for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. We are committed to giving patients a degree of control during chemotherapy treatment. We have made it our responsibility to offer advice, support and access to scalp cooling for cancer patients no matter where they are based in the world. Having been through the same journey as many patients and their families, we are dedicated to empowering people by giving them the choice to keep their hair.

Yesterday’s meeting in the Maryland Senate demonstrated the power of what can happen when people come together for a common cause.

House Bill 393, mandating insurance coverage for scalp cooling as a means of managing the side effect of chemotherapy-induced alopecia, passed with an overwhelming majority!

The impact of cancer and the devastating side effect of hair loss affects so many and lasts years beyond the gruelling schedule of appointments, treatments and surgeries. The genuine passion and vulnerability shown by delegates who shared their lived experiences highlight how hair loss remains a powerful, visible reminder of the disease.

A huge congratulations to everyone who has contributed to making this a reality. It will allow those navigating a cancer diagnosis the choice to maintain some degree of control, normalcy and identity with reduced financial burden.

"I was the tall girl with the big, beautiful crown of curls. Curls I cherished. How could I lose this part of myself?"

Amara recently shared her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment experience with Living Beyond Breast Cancer. The impact of the potential side effect of hair loss was overwhelming, but the positivity shines through from the support of her community and those around her. Supported by Hair to Stay she was able to access scalp cooling which helped in some small way to maintain her sense of self and identity throughout this challenging time in her life.

As we approach the end of February and Black History Month, experiences like Amara's remind us of the power hair and community have during difficult times and the difference being able to choose your hair and advocate for yourself has. Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/4aBsb2R

"When you lose your hair it's a sign of illness, it's a sign that you've got cancer, it's a sign that something's going on"

Last week, advocate Rossalynn testified with other advocates to The House Health Committee in Maryland for Legislation requiring Insurance Companies to cover Mechanical Scalp Cooling.

Delegate LaToya Nkongolo, the bill's lead sponsor in the house, stressed the psychological importance of hair during treatment sharing: "We don't think about it until it's gone."

In the US, scalp cooling remains a large out of pocket cost for many, including Rossalynn, who paid upfront. With Category I CPT codes now available, many large health systems are leading the way by adopting the Paxman insurance-based billing model, enabling them to bill insurance on behalf of their patients.

The states of New York and Louisiana are the first to mandate private insurance coverage for scalp cooling, with Maryland and numerous other states following this lead.
