Paxman Scalp Cooling

Paxman Scalp Cooling The global leader in scalp cooling. We help cancer patients worldwide to retain their hair during chemotherapy

When Sue Paxman lost her hair while receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer, her family shared her distress. Sue's husband, Glenn Paxman founded Paxman on the back of this experience and to this day we remain a close family business. Knowing first-hand the effects that both cancer and its treatment can have on patients, friends and families, our business is much more than just a job. We aim to ma

ke a difference to people’s lives by raising awareness about scalp cooling and establishing it as a common practice for all patients undergoing treatment. As the leading global manufacturer and supplier of scalp cooling equipment, we work in partnership with medical professionals, research centres, cancer support groups, charities and patients to continually improve our technology. Investing in scientific testing and development has allowed us to attain outstanding technical precision and the highest levels of clinical efficacy. We strive to gain further knowledge and understanding of hair loss prevention for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. We are committed to giving patients a degree of control during chemotherapy treatment. We have made it our responsibility to offer advice, support and access to scalp cooling for cancer patients no matter where they are based in the world. Having been through the same journey as many patients and their families, we are dedicated to empowering people by giving them the choice to keep their hair.

Jennie Marx, from Chicago, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019.

Jennie's scalp cooling journey is one of support. Her nurse at Kellogg Cancer Center played a big, supportive role helping her scalp cool, which came full circle when she joined the Paxman buddy program to give others that same support.

She eventually continued to support patients professionally by joining Paxman as a Patient Liaison.

“Not all insurance companies have adopted their medical billing codes yet… even among hospitals that offer cold capping, many still don’t bill insurance providers for the treatment.”

We completely agree, Karin.

Scalp cooling is clinically recognised, supported by guidelines, and there are established billing pathways in place, although it may not always feel consistent for patients.

This can mean they sometimes find themselves trying to navigate parts of the process, when their focus should be on treatment. Progress is being made, but there’s still an opportunity to make access feel simpler and more consistent for everyone who could benefit.

Today is Clinical Trials Awareness Day, so we'd like to take a moment to recognise just how important research is in advancing patient care👏

Clinical trials are essential in building the evidence that drives progress, helping us understand treatment outcomes, and also how we can improve quality of life during and after cancer.

One recent randomised controlled trial explored the impact of scalp cooling in preventing persistent chemotherapy-induced alopecia (hair loss lasting 6+ months). The results showed a significant reduction in long-term hair loss, with 13.5% of patients using scalp cooling affected vs 52% without, alongside improvements in hair regrowth and reduced patient distress.

What a day!👏

We could not be more proud of the Paxman Striders for taking part in Walk the Walk's over the weekend, and for amount of money they have raised for such an amazing cause.

If there ever needed to be proof of Paxman’s team spirit, this is it. Colleagues supporting each other every step of the way, even during the tough final stretch to the finish line, where they dug deep and powered through!

So far, the team have raised over £9,000, contributing to a grand total of over £2 million for the charity.

We'd love to hit that £10,000 mark, as Walk the Walk have been such a huge part of the Paxman journey. So if you can, please do donate👇

Last night in San Antonio, we were delighted to welcome oncology nurses and healthcare professionals for an evening of education, collaboration and shared commitment to improving patient care.

The dinner focused on advancing understanding of chemotherapy side effect management, including scalp cooling for hair preservation, early detection and monitoring of treatment-related effects such as lymphedema, and emerging approaches to reducing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The sessions also highlighted the importance of patient-centered support, ensuring patients are supported both clinically and emotionally throughout their cancer journey. We were honoured to hear from our expert speakers: Karin Buck, Carlea Davis (Living Beyond Breast Cancer), Erin Dickman (Impedimed) and Crista Cody who shared valuable insights and real-world perspectives.

A huge thank you to our co-sponsors Impedimed and Living Beyond Breast Cancer for their partnership and for helping deliver such an impactful and engaging evening.

Tomorrow is The MoonWalk in London, and we are so grateful for the support 💚

Together, we have raised £7,375 for Walk The Walk, so far.

Walk the Walk has been part of the Paxman story for a long time. Their early support helped fund donations of scalp cooling systems to UK hospitals, which played a real part in making scalp cooling more widely available across the UK.

Every donation really matters. If you are able to donate, thank you, we really appreciate it. If you can't donate, share the post with your network, let's try to raise as much as possible for such an amazing cause.

Don't forget, Paxman are adding £1 for every £2 donated.

In an interview with our Director of US Clinical Services, Jacqueline Olsen, BSN, RN, MBA, she looks back on her journey as an oncology nurse when scalp cooling was implemented at her cancer center in Boston. She recognises how scalp cooling can be yet another protocol on the list for nurses, another time commitment, but how the benefits to patients and eventually to the cancer center outweigh any perceived drawbacks.

Watch her video for more information and how adopting the Insurance-Based Billing Model can lead to more resources at the cancer center. Find our more about our Insurance-Based Billing Model here: paxmanusa.com/IBBM
