We welcome Professor Chris Whitty’s, Chief Medical Officer for England, Annual Report for 2023: Health in an Ageing Society, which highlights the importance of regular eye examinations with a special emphasis on individuals aged 60 and above. Sight loss can significantly impact the quality of life, potentially interacting with other sensory impairments and balance issues.

Routine eye examinations are important for everyone, not just older adults and many causes of sight loss can be slowed, prevented, or even reversed if detected early enough.

Optometrists are qualified to detect defects in vision, signs of injury, ocular diseases or abnormalities and may also treat and manage a range of eye conditions.

Help spread awareness of free NHS sight tests, available for adults in England and Wales aged 60 and over.
