Dream work in movement and therapy

Marian Woodman is a Jungian Analyst and writer. Her work emphasises how dreams connect us to our inner world, with the body as vessel that holds and integrates these insights.

“The body is the ground of the psyche, and dreams are the bridge. Through our dreams, the soul reaches through the unconscious to touch the physical body and bring it into alignment with our deeper truth.” Marion Woodman

Somatic Dreamwork is something I am exploring for next year’s workshops. My personal jungian analysis spanning over 25 years was focused on the jungian understanding of dreams. I have held a long term vision to facilitate this work. Watch this space!!!

“Our bodies carry our whole life experience in their cellular memory. When we begin to work with the body, we release images, memories, and feelings that our conscious mind has forgotten or buried.”
Marion Woodman

This use of tracking the body and symptoms along with the associated parts that emerge is part of my practice. Great to see such a detailed discussion.

Lots of new ideas and new inspiration during our conference this year! Check out Agape Theatre:

'This past weekend was a powerful experience at the where dramatherapists explored race and power. Agape Theatre launched its first project in our ongoing initiative to ‘de-colonize the therapy space.’ Our brand-new Rhythm Cards are a deck of images that offer opportunities for representation, celebration and normalization of diasporic images, motifs, themes, and experiences. Our mission to is to limit assumptions and barriers that may exclude global majority communities, offering deeper resonance of rhythms and journeys. Following a successful HCPC validation process this year, we are delighted to announce that the first fully accredited, Masters-level Dramatherapy training programme in Scotland will be offered from the 2022-23 academic year. The programme will take place at Queen Margaret University (QMU) in Edinburgh, with which we have built a close relationship over the last three years, including offering an Introduction to Dramatherapy Short Course in 2019-20 (and again currently) as a way of building interest in the full programme.

This introductory course (4 x weekends over 4 months) was a development of three introductory courses offered at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow) between 2018-2019. Several interested students have engaged in a number of these training opportunities and the full MSc programme is meeting a growing demand, noticed over a number of years, for an accredited programme in Scotland.

The MSc Dramatherapy will sit within the School of Health Sciences and will be offered as a pathway within a framework shared by Art Psychotherapy and Music Therapy. The programme will include shared modules with students from the above two courses, as part of integrated, interdisciplinary learning, while also maintaining the integrity of the experiential processes at the core of all Dramatherapy programmes. It will be offered as a 2-year, full time programme only initially, with applications now open for a first student intake in 2022/23. We hope that all BADth members may be able to support the promotion of this first Scotland-based programme in whatever way you can.
