Our bodies are our temples and I often ask myself why people would put things onto and into their bodies that are potentially harmful, containing man-made chemicals, fillers, emulsifiers, vegetable oils, hidden sugars and preservatives.
Having thought a great deal about this, here are some possible reasons:
Lack of awareness/education.
Lack of self-discipline/willpower.
Addiction to sugar.
Marketing/advertising.
Taking each of these points in turn, it is a case of becoming consciously aware of what we are putting into our bodies and reading the list of ingredients on processed food. The first ingredient contains the highest percentage and the last the lowest, taking responsibility for our health and wellbeing and maybe thinking about the journey the food has taken to get onto our plates rather the picking the food up off the super market shelves without given it a second thought. According to Candace Pert, author of "The Molecules of Emotion," we don't know what these ingredients are doing to our internal organs, cells, and molecules.
Self-discipline will come in time, beginning with small changes so you don't become overwhelmed, and as you start to feel better and feel the benefits, it will become easier and easier to adopt a change in lifestyle.
According to Jeffery Rediger, author of "Cured - The Power of our Immune system and the mind body connection", in cave man times, we ate off the land which were foods with a low sugar content but when sugar was introduced into our diets, our bodies rewarding ourselves by releasing dopamine and giving us a "fix" so the more sugar in our diets the more we crave it. Sugar is hidden in so many foods as maltodextrine and glucose syrup, for example.
Large conglomerate organisations advocate foods to be healthy, such as McDonalds, Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken when, in fact, the ingredients contribute to causing disease in our bodies. They don't want us to be healthy as it is all about making money and lots of it!
I like to lead by example, and I don't mind admitting that I'm 57, I'm not overweight, and I don't have any diseases in my body. Continued in comments.
