We breath involuntarily, yes but do we breathe consciously and to our optimum level? Mostly not.

Stress and anxiety can cause our breathing rate to rise, and our breath to be shallow, breathing from the chest or throat rather than from the abdomen or main diaphragm which affects our energy, focus, and overall well-being.

That’s where pranayama - calming, conscious breathing, comes in.

In yoga, we connect the mind with the breath, allowing us to release tension and create spaciousness and expansion in the body.

It was an absolute pleasure to collaborate today with the wonderful Kirsty McDonald of Art2Art Society at Fletcher’s Mill, Dean Clough in Halifax. I loved every moment of holding a cacao ceremony and creating a sacred, supportive, safe space themed around creativity and self-care, beautifully complementing Kirsty’s abstract art workshop.

We used journal prompts to help us connect with our inner creativity and choose a personal theme for our artwork. My theme was water, while others chose circles, community, lines, calmness and out of my comfort zone. We then moved into a guided meditation focused on the third eye chakra, inviting illumination, intuition, and creative flow.

Our artwork unfolded in layers: first collaging paper, card and bubble wrap onto our base, then painting over it in black and drying each layer with a hairdryer. We scraped back areas of black paint, used masking tape to preserve chosen sections, and painted over in white. After removing the tape, we added vibrant touches of colour with alcohol inks and water sprays. The results were incredible. For me, the key was not overthinking or becoming attached to the outcome — the magic was in the process and intention.

I used to shy away from painting and drawing out of fear of how others might judge the finished piece. But now I feel able to let go, trust the process, and simply enjoy being in the flow which was one of the reasons my theme was water and also being a Piscean. I found the experience deeply calming and therapeutic and it brought me into the present moment allowing me to let go of any worries or concerns. Time to just be, rather than doing.

I'm very much looking forward to our next session on Saturday 13th December, 10:30am–1:30pm (details are on the attached flyer).

We’ve all heard “Your body is a temple.”
It’s time to start treating it like one.

✨When did we stop caring what we put into our bodies?
✨When did we stop noticing what’s absorbed into our bodies through our skin
✨When did we stop treating our bodies with the respect they deserve?

Your skin is porous, the largest organ in your body.
Everything you put on it is absorbed into your body, into your bloodstream and could be having a detrimental affect on your internal organs.

Think about what touches your skin every day:

🌿 Moisturiser.
🌿 Make-up.

Most of these are filled with man-made chemicals our bodies were never designed to process.

Before you reach for your phone tomorrow… try this instead.
✨ Challenge: Name 5 things you’re grateful for.
(Small or big, practicing gratitude brings positivity and supports your mental health.)

Before the day begins, pause and think of five things you truly appreciate.
It could be something as simple as:

• A warm, cosy bed
• Hot running water
• A fridge keeping your food fresh
• Morning sunlight
• Time to breathe before the day starts

When we begin with gratitude, we shift our focus from what’s missing to what’s already here, creating a calm, grounded start to the day.

✨Today I wanted to focus on mindfulness and intention setting (Sankalpa).

In Sanskrit, Sankalpa means a heartfelt intention or resolve.
It’s a short, present-tense statement that embodies the energy you wish to carry through your day.

Here are some examples:

🌿 I am confident and creative
🌿 I am abundant in all areas of my life
🌿 I am healthy and full of vitality

✨Your Sankalpa ISN’T about wishing, it’s about REMEMBERING who you already are.

Breathing techniques are often misunderstood.
“People tell me to breathe when I’m frustrated…”
✨ Let’s look at why breathing really matters, and how it can do so much more than calm you down.

✨ Introducing the Power of Ujjayi Breathing Technique

🌿 Ujjayi (pronounced oo-jai) is an ancient yogic breathing technique used for thousands of years to enhance Hatha yoga practice.

It means “the victorious breath” and is often called “the oceanic breath.” The sound you create is soft and steady, like ocean waves, wind blowing through trees, or a baby peacefully sleeping.

This breath helps you move smoothly in and out of postures, linking breath with movement. When holding poses, it helps you stay calm and focused.

By deepening and lengthening your breath, Ujjayi:

• Balances the cardiovascular system
• Increases oxygen in the blood
• Nourishes and energises the body

It’s also wonderful for calming the mind, perfect before a job interview, presentation, or any stressful event.

I’ve been leading Kirtan for a few months now,
And I still get asked what it is.
✨So let me tell you.

🌿 Kirtan is a form of devotional singing that comes from the Bhakti yoga tradition. It’s all about connecting with your heart through sound, using call-and-response chanting to quieten the mind, , and create a sense of deep peace and knowing, allowing us to truly come home to ourselves. Who am I? Kirtan – A journey to self-connection, self-discovery and self-love.

✨Do you enjoy singing?
(And don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be in tune.)

If the answer is yes, then this evening is for you.

You’ll experience an evening of song and mantra, connecting with your inner self and leaving with a sense of calm, deep peace, clarity, and renewal.
