Today is International Men's Day so we are celebrating our very own Graham Torrie!

Graham is Debbie's husband and a director of our company. His roles are Funeral Service Operative and Fleet Manager. Graham has also recently passed his Certificate in Funeral Services, so is now qualified.

Many people will have seen Graham when they come into the office, or on services. Don't be afraid to say hi to him. He is friendly really!

A few weeks ago, Debbie, Kayleigh and Graham attended the British Institute of Funeral Directors in Windsor. Whilst at the Gala Dinner on the Saturday night, they took the opportunity to have some photos taken by the Photographer on site. Here are just a few of them.

The weekend was about celebrating the Institute and all the work it does for the Funeral Profession, by educating it's members. All three of us are members, with Debbie and Kayleigh achieving their Diploma from the Institute. Kayleigh is also their Public Relations Officer, as well as one of their examiners, so she does a lot of work for them as well as our company.

Sad news today folks! One of our beloved celebrants, Lynne Fox, has decided she is leaving us! She is going to retire. We have tried talking her out of it, but she is having none of it!

For the last seven years (still can't believe it has been that long), Lynne has worked with many of our families, delivering services tailored to them and following our company values, and we have had so much praise for the work she has done. We will be sad to see her go.

If anyone has had Lynne take a service for them, we hope you will join us in wishing her all the best in her retirement as she certainly deserves it.

20 years ago today, Deborah Ingham Funeral Service opened it's doors for the first time. After spending over 8 years working for bigger companies, Debbie decided to take a leap of faith and opened up her own company. Starting out as a one man band, with the help of her parents David and Sandra, and a few casual staff, the company has grown to what it is today, and Debbie has been joined by her husband Graham, her daughter Kayleigh, with the three of them running the company between them. Debbie's other daughter Rebecca, comes in occasionally to help out.

In the last 20 years, we have looked after many people and helped families give them funerals, bespoke to them. Thank you to all these people for giving us the privilege of and trusting us to look after your loved ones.

Here's to many more years serving our community and continuing to grow our company.

It's the 1st October which means it's the first day of donation collecting for Santa's Seniors.

We will be a drop off point for them between the hours of 10.30am and 1.30pm weekdays right up until Friday 5th December although if you cannot get to us, please get in contact with Kayleigh to arrange collection.

This is a charity we have been involved with for many years, as both a drop off point and doing some wrapping for them. The aim is to give people in Kirklees 3 presents to open on Christmas day, who wouldn't normally have anything.

Help us give to this fantastic charity by donating something if you can. Items that can be included, but not limited are below, but we always seek things like gift bags, wrapping paper, cards and sellotape as well.

Thank you to everyone that have donated in previous years and those that continue to do so.

Welcome to all our new followers.

We have had mixed reviews regarding our last post where Debbie and Graham are taking their friend for a direct cremation wearing s*x pistols t shirts and would like to take the time to clear things up.

The truth is, whether it's something you would like or not, direct cremations are becoming more and more popular and the aim of the post was to raise awareness, that family and deceased's wishes can be carried out, even for direct cremation.

To some people that commented that it was disrespectful, undignified and not for them, that may be the case for them, whether they just don't like the idea of direct cremation or because of the way we were dressed. They are entitled to their opinions. But the deceased who's cremation it was, specifically asked that we do what we did. We treat all our deceased and their families, with the dignity, care and respect that they deserve, but funerals are not a one size fits all and so if a family has an unusual request, we try to honor it. Had the gentleman not requested what he did, then Debbie and Graham would have taken him in their uniform in silence, and not filmed, which is what we usually do.

Funerals, whether direct or a full traditional service, should be about the deceased and what they want.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to send us a message and we shall answer them.

If you are thinking about a funeral and want to have your wishes fulfilled, please come and speak to us or if we are not local, then talk to your local funeral director. The majority will be able to fulfil wishes as much as possible.

As always, use someone reputable and you can do this by looking for the SAIF, NAFD or BIFD logo on their websites, in branches and on paperwork.

The videos below are an example of the things we can offer with Direct Cremations to still make it meaningful to you, even though you don't see it.

Usually we will be in uniform and we wouldn't normally cry. However this was for a very close friend of Debbie and Graham. He wanted a piece of music played as loud as we could and a direct cremation with Debbie and Graham in ordinary clothes wearing S*x Pistols t shirts, and that is exactly what he got.

The banners were made for a party we recently held for him when we knew he didn't have long left, and he loved them so much, he took them back to the home with him to put on display. It was only fitting, they were displayed in the hearse on his last journey.

If anyone is thinking of having a direct cremation but would like something in particular done, please contact your local funeral director who may be able to make it happen. If it's possible, our company will do it.
