EYFS changes with regards to Paediatric First Aid

From 1st Sept 2025, Ofsted will expect ALL early years settings to follow NEW rules.

Our Paediatric First Aid Courses meet the requirements for your settings and classes now cover the changes within them

• Every staff member in ratios MUST hold a valid 12-hr PFA certificate

• This includes apprentices (16+), volunteers (17+), & experience-based staff

• Paediatric First Aid certificates MUST be renewed every 3 years and MUST be on show or readily available at any point.

Safer Eating & Nutrition
• A Paediatric First Aider MUST be present whenever children are eating
• All information must be gathered & checked for allergy, dietary & health information at every mealtime
• All high-risk foods MUST be cut safely (grapes, sausages, etc.)
• Follow the new government Nutrition Guidance for menus & snacks
• ALL choking incidents or near misses MUST be recorded & reviewed

OFSTED will be checking against this new criteria.

Big Change Coming in 2026!
From early 2026, CPR and defibrillator questions will be added to the car and motorcycle theory test.

Why? Because drivers are often first on the scene when someone has a cardiac arrest. Knowing how to act could be the difference between life and death.
