When the Weather Picks Up… So Do the Injuries

Sun’s out…
steps go up…
and suddenly everyone’s turned into Frodo Baggins.

Walking everywhere.
Hills, trails, long routes you’ve not touched in months.

Nothing wrong with that.
But your body still needs to catch up.

This time of year I start seeing more:
Foot pain.
Achilles issues.
Rolled ankles on uneven ground.

Usually from one of two things:
Doing too much too soon.
Or a simple misstep on a long walk.

Your feet and ankles take a lot of load.
If they’re not ready for it, they’ll let you know.

Build it up gradually.
Mix in some strength work.
And don’t go from zero to Mordor in one weekend.

If something’s already niggling, it’s easier to sort now than push through it.

When Shoulder Pain Stops You Doing What You Enjoy

Shoulder pain can creep in quickly.
One minute you’re fine…
next minute simple movements feel awkward or painful.

Especially with things like kayaking, gym work, or overhead activity.

That’s where getting the right plan matters.

Rotator cuff pain isn’t about avoiding movement.
It’s about loading it properly.
Building strength.
And getting the shoulder trusting movement again.

If your shoulder’s been limiting what you enjoy, it’s worth getting it looked at properly.

The VMO (Vastus Medialis Oblique) isn’t a separate muscle you can switch on with a magic exercise.

It’s part of the quadriceps group;
Vastus Medialis
Vastus Lateralis
Vastus Intermedius
and Re**us Femoris

They work together.

You can’t truly isolate one and ignore the others.
And you don’t need to.

If your knee’s sore, focus on building overall quad strength and managing load properly.

That’s what changes things long term.

Advice That Actually Makes Sense

Ever left an appointment still not really sure what’s going on?

That’s the bit I try to avoid.

If you’re in pain, you don’t just want treatment.
You want understanding.
You want to know what’s causing it.
And what you can actually do about it.

That’s always the aim.
Explain the potential causes.
Show you the exercises.
Make sure you understand why you’re doing them.

And if sports massage is part of it — make sure that helps too.

If you’ve got an injury you don’t fully understand yet, let’s clear it up.

Everyone wants the “best” exercise.

The one magic move that fixes their back.
Or their knee.
Or their shoulder.

But it doesn’t work like that.

The body responds to load and consistency, not one special movement.
The exercise that helps most is the one you can tolerate, repeat, and gradually build. 🧱👷🏼

If something flares you up every time, it’s not the “best” for you right now.
If something feels manageable and you can progress it week by week… that’s your starting point.

It’s not about finding the perfect exercise.
It’s about finding the right one for where you are. 👆🏼
