I love it when my boys get to play the same thing, but different. Today we had messy play set up with a farm small world, my two favourite combos! Taste safe messy play for my baby and rice sensory play for my eldest. The trays were both thoroughly enjoyed. The farm was added to and extended by the older one and the younger one emptied the trays and sucked all the animals!

Neck floats are inflatables that sit around a baby’s neck. The idea is they allow babies to float freely in the water. But babies can drown or suffocate. Which is why we advise you to avoid them.

If the float pushes up against something this can put pressure on the baby’s airways. There’s also a risk that, if the float flips over, the baby’s face can be submerged under the water.

Neck floats can also give you a false sense of security. It’s scary to think about but drowning happens quickly and quietly, often with no noise to alert you it’s happening.

That’s why we advise that babies are in arms’ reach in the water at all times so that you can act fast to keep them safe.

We often hear parents say they don’t use the straps on their high chair so they can get to their child more easily if they choke.

But falls, even from a fairly low height, can cause a serious head injury with lifelong consequences. And sadly, they are common.

Little ones might try to get things that are out of their reach, lean over the side and topple out or push themselves up and try to climb out.

And, as they are top-heavy, they can topple easily and suffer a serious head injury or broken bones.

Meanwhile, if your child was to choke it only takes a few seconds to unbuckle them and start first aid.

So, get into the habit of using the straps on the highchair every time you use it. And, remember to always stay with your baby and watch when they’re eating so you can act quickly if they choke.

If you’re worried you can:
- Secure the harness over their bib so you can release it easier in an emergency
- Practice releasing the harness a few times so you’re comfortable with doing it
- Download our free fact sheet for tips on how to prevent choking: https://capt.org.uk/resources/choking-fact-sheet/

It's Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week!
At the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM), we stand in support of all mothers navigating the emotional journey of parenthood.

Maternal mental health matters, and this week is a vital reminder that support, connection, and nurturing touch can make a powerful difference.

Did you know that infant massage offers incredible benefits not just for babies, but also for maternal well-being?

Through infant massage, parents can experience:

💜 Enhanced bonding and connection with their baby

💜 Reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression

💜 Increased confidence in understanding their baby’s cues

💜 A calming, mindful moment during the often-overwhelming early days of parenthood

The simple act of loving, respectful touch helps regulate stress, promotes relaxation, and strengthens the emotional link between parent and child. At IAIM, our mission is to nurture healthy parent-infant relationships through touch and communication.

This Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, we encourage you to reach out, support one another, and explore tools, like infant massage, that foster both emotional and physical well-being. There is lots of support to be found, for example at

You're not alone. Your mental health matters.
Let’s keep talking, connecting, and caring, one gentle touch at a time.
