"I have been singing the team's praises to my family and friends" – patient Pauline has praised the whole team Orthopaedic Team for their efforts to get her home before Storm Goretti hit earlier this month, following her total hip replacement surgery.

Pauline’s experience from start to finish impressed her so much that she got in touch with some special mentions:

🌟 A big shout-out to staff nurse Courtney Sunderland. Just carry on being you. You are a total credit to the nursing profession.

🫂 To the anaesthetic team and the lovely Alvin Damolo with their very caring, kind manner.

🎉 Then back to ward 8B at Calderdale. What fabulous people you all are, caring compassionate kind and understanding. Massive shout-out to staff nurse Tiffany White. What a lovely person you are and also an absolute credit to the profession.

🙏 Finally a massive thank you to Mr Samer Mahmood and his team for pulling out all the stops and getting me home before storm Goretti hit. I was home safely with two hours to spare before my lane became completely blocked with snow!

What brilliant feedback! Thank you Pauline.

Last week, staff from across our Trust came together to road-test our newly redesigned Welcome Event, launching for all new starters from February.

Led by our Organisational Development Team, the session focused on creating an informative, accessible and engaging first experience at CHFT. From introductions to our Trust values to interactive activities like bingo and a Jenga challenge, everything has been designed to build connection and inclusion from day one.

Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their feedback to help shape a warm, energetic welcome for our new starters.

The Patients Association are running online focus groups to help culturally adapt two patient factsheets on healthcare rights, support, and getting the most out of appointments.

If you speak Arabic, Benali, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian or Urdu (alongside English), your input would be appreciated.

The factsheets are already translated, but checks are required to make sure they truly make sense culturally and linguistically.

❄️ During the recent spell of cold weather, our BLOSM team worked closely with local partners to support people sleeping rough in Huddersfield. ❄️

With a Severe Weather Emergency Protocol in place, those identified as sleeping rough were offered temporary accommodation through a specialist housing team at Kirklees Council.

Our team were out at 6am, walking across the town entre as part of a daily outreach. Making sure people were encouraged to access assessment, shelter and support during dangerous conditions.

🎈 Peter celebrated his 80th birthday slightly differently this year. 🎈

Instead of receiving gifts, he asked his family and friends to donate to our Cardiac Rehabilitation Team as a thank you for the care and support he received from them recently.

Peter’s generosity will help other local people on their own recovery journeys.

Thank you, Peter!
