Dissolving filler can be daunting for patients. Here are a few reasons why:
- perhaps you’ve had filler for years and in the meantime the face continues to age. Hence you don’t know how it will look once it’s dissolved, other than there will be a change.
- initially dissolving can cause some swelling, this is very temporary and usually resolves within a day.
- you might have read horror stories about people saying it ‘destroyed’ their face. In my 12 years I’ve never seen this with my patients. Remember if you had years of filler all suddenly removed, it will reveal what you would have looked like and yes, that can be a shock.
I keep my work natural so there is rarely a need to remove filler.
When I’m dissolving another practitioners work I do it with as much accuracy as possible, aiming to remove only the filler that has become ‘a nuisance’ and I plan with my patient to do it when it will have the least impact socially. (Remember you need at least a two week interval before adding filler after a dissolve).
Where a larger dissolve is necessary this is often planned in stages, so the change is gradual, allowing the skin to recover between sessions. I also recommend adding in treatments alongside to promote an enhancement of the skin quality along this journey.
If you’ve been holding onto filler that is less than aesthetically pleasing, or is causing you any puffiness please feel free to book in for a consultation.
