❄️ Snow & Severe Winter Weather Alert — Stay Safe! ❄️

With cold weather and snow forecast, here are some practical ways to stay safe and prepared — and to support each other during icy weather by Age UK.

Important Tips:

🌀 Look out for older neighbours, relatives or friends — make sure they’re warm, well and have enough food supplies.

🌡️ Keep homes warm — aim for at least 18°C (64°F), wear suitable clothing and keep bedroom windows closed at night.

🍲 Check practical needs — see if someone needs help with shopping, chores or collecting medication.

🚶 Help clear paths — when you clear your path, offer to clear theirs too and spread some salt (even ordinary table salt helps).

🌦️ Stay updated on weather warnings — forecasts can change quickly, so keep an eye on your local weather via the Met Office.

🛒 Prepare for travel difficulties — make sure you have enough food and medication in case it becomes hard to leave the house.

🔦 Be ready for power cuts — keep torches/batteries handy and call 105 to report or get information about power failures.

👟 Take extra care on icy paths — wear shoes with good grip and consider using salt or grit to reduce slipping hazards.

🚗 Plan ahead if driving is necessary — avoid travel in bad weather if you can. If you must drive, take blankets, snacks, water, a phone charger and ice scraper.
