This might be news in the UK but studies in the States previous to the Covid pandemic had already shown that we are starting to get sick younger now than before. At least in the West.
While there might be not enough data to confirm what the causes are, we can have a wild guess, why not.
My bet is in the loss of community spirit and support. There's now quite enough research that shows that the number one factor of good health is strong social connections, way ahead of good nutrition and exercise.
And our society is becoming more and more individualistic and there's less and less community support. The Covid pandemic hasn't helped, that's true. Having to endure long lock downs hasn't promoted getting together with your neighbours much.
There are already some initiatives from the NHS in the pipeline that are very encouraging, but I wonder if it's too little too late...
