Sometimes the best lip filler results come after starting again.

Not all lip filler results age well over time. One of the things I sometimes see when new clients come to clinic is lip filler that has migrated outside the natural lip border.

This can create:
• Puffiness above the top lip
• A blurred lip line
• A “shelf” or heavy appearance
• Lips that look larger but not well defined

In these situations, the best and safest approach is often to dissolve the migrated filler. Using a product that breaks down the hyaluronic acid filler, we can carefully remove the misplaced product and allow the lips to return to their natural shape.

Once the area has settled, lips can then be re-treated in a much more balanced and natural way, respecting the natural anatomy of the face.

Sometimes taking a step back and starting fresh is the best way to achieve beautiful, soft, natural-looking lips.

👄 Let’s talk about migrated lip filler 👄

Lip filler should enhance the natural shape of the lips, not distort it. Unfortunately, I sometimes see new clients whose filler has migrated outside the natural lip border.

Lip filler migration happens when the product moves from where it was originally placed, often creating a puffy area above the lip line or a “shelf” effect above the cupid’s bow.

Common signs of lip filler migration:
• Puffiness above the top lip
• Blurred or less defined lip borders
• A “duck lip” or heavy appearance
• Lips looking larger but not well shaped

Migration can happen for several reasons, including overfilling, repeated treatments too close together, or incorrect placement.

The good news is that it can usually be corrected. In many cases, the safest option is to dissolve the migrated filler first, allowing the lips to return to their natural anatomy before carefully re-treating for a balanced, natural result.

As an independent nurse prescriber with a Master’s in Aesthetics, my approach is always conservative and medically led. Beautiful lips should look soft, hydrated and natural — not overdone.
