Meet The Team!
It's been a little while since I talked about the full range of therapists we have available at ProActive Therapies. In fact, we have grown so much over the last year or so, I had almost lost count!
So here's a little run down of the therapists we have and what they can offer!...
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture with Justine Oliver
Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy with Tracy Shanks Tracy Shanks Sports & Remedial Massage
Physiotherapy with Steph Harrison
Reflexology with Sarah Laytham Reflexology with Sarah
Counselling with Emily Wheeldon .co.uk
Aesthetics with Liz De Rijk
Craniosacral Therapy and Holistic Massage with Ania Chard
Hypnotherapy with Sam Grainger
Here are three top tips for getting the most out of your massage appointments from our sports massage therapist, Tracy Shanks Sports & Remedial Massage :
1) Consider when you are booking your appointment
Ideally it would be either on a rest day or day off from work. If that's not possible, try to book it for after your exercise or work for the day. Try to make sure you don't have anything too stressful or particularly physical to do after your treatment.
2) Communicate with your Therapist
Let us know if you have any issues at the moment - why you have booked the appointment. Also let us know how things feel, if it's comfortable, or too much pressure. Similarly, if you think an area needs more work or pressure.
3) Drink lots of water after
This is especially true if you suffer with headaches and if you have massage around your neck and shoulders.

The Benefits of Massage…
There are so many forms of massage available, all with slightly differing goals.
But the general benefits of any form of massage are the same!
Most of these benefits come from the nervous system which is calmed by “touch therapies” such as massage.
At ProActive Therapies we offer both Sports and Remedial massage for those who prefer a deeper pressure, as well as classical and Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian temple) massages for those who prefer a lighter touch and holistic approach.
We also offer Indian Head Massage which is incredible for stress relief, relaxation and improving sleep quality!

Specialising in Sports and remedial massage. Based at Kingswood Leisure Centre but also works mobile in Little Stoke, Bristol and surrounding areas.
We all know how busy life gets and how easy it is to neglect our bodies. This can manifest itself when we work too hard, train too much or simply not look after ourselves the way we should.
The following are a few ways in which you may benefit by having a sports and remedial massage treatment:
Injury prevention, improved performance and improved recovery- whether your reason is sport specific, training for an event or you want to enhance your training in the gym. Treatment can have circulatory benefits that increase blood flow to get rid of toxins and improve nutrient delivery to aid repair. Advice may be given also for ways in which to enhance recovery.
Pain relief, reducing tension, relieving aches/pains, improving general health and well being- techniques are used to decrease tension in muscles and decrease pain sensitivity. Treatment will often provide a relaxing environment which helps to alleviate stress and stimulate relaxation for psychological benefits. This can also help promote a healthier sleeping pattern and encourage a healthy body and mind balance.
Improving posture, improved self awareness, improve muscle length-tension- part of the treatment process will be to look at posture, muscle imbalances and what regular habits may contribute to them. Where possible, we may look into ways in which changing bad habits may be able to improve such imbalances. Treatment can decrease muscle spasms, deactivate muscle hypertonicity and improve muscle proprioception. Some of the techniques that are used will improve the function of muscles by realigning tissues, breaking down adhesions and separating the fascia/connective tissue. This may improve flexibility and range of motion which encourages optimal function.
Treatment may also help to offer relief to patients that feel anxious, low or lack confidence-as well as the possibility of helping patients with various medical conditions, treatments offered can help to improve a patients breathing pattern. Particular treatment on muscles that are associated with the ribcage may require the patient to take gentle, controlled breaths in and out whilst a specific technique is used on them. This will encourage a more relaxed state, and, focus on the breathing technique will be a great tool for the patient to use when they are in the comfort of their own home.
