We all know how busy life gets and how easy it is to neglect our bodies. This can manifest itself when we work too hard, train too much or simply not look after ourselves the way we should.
The following are a few ways in which you may benefit by having a sports and remedial massage treatment:
Injury prevention, improved performance and improved recovery- whether your reason is sport specific, training for an event or you want to enhance your training in the gym. Treatment can have circulatory benefits that increase blood flow to get rid of toxins and improve nutrient delivery to aid repair. Advice may be given also for ways in which to enhance recovery.
Pain relief, reducing tension, relieving aches/pains, improving general health and well being- techniques are used to decrease tension in muscles and decrease pain sensitivity. Treatment will often provide a relaxing environment which helps to alleviate stress and stimulate relaxation for psychological benefits. This can also help promote a healthier sleeping pattern and encourage a healthy body and mind balance.
Improving posture, improved self awareness, improve muscle length-tension- part of the treatment process will be to look at posture, muscle imbalances and what regular habits may contribute to them. Where possible, we may look into ways in which changing bad habits may be able to improve such imbalances. Treatment can decrease muscle spasms, deactivate muscle hypertonicity and improve muscle proprioception. Some of the techniques that are used will improve the function of muscles by realigning tissues, breaking down adhesions and separating the fascia/connective tissue. This may improve flexibility and range of motion which encourages optimal function.
Treatment may also help to offer relief to patients that feel anxious, low or lack confidence-as well as the possibility of helping patients with various medical conditions, treatments offered can help to improve a patients breathing pattern. Particular treatment on muscles that are associated with the ribcage may require the patient to take gentle, controlled breaths in and out whilst a specific technique is used on them. This will encourage a more relaxed state, and, focus on the breathing technique will be a great tool for the patient to use when they are in the comfort of their own home.
