As part of celebrating International Nurses Day on 12 May 2026, our Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) graduates Kim Harvey, Laura Needham and Inuba Gonzalez were invited to the annual Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service at Westminster Abbey along with Head of Education, Gary Cole proudly representing our Trust.

This special opportunity followed Kim, Laura and Inuba’s completion of the Florence Nightingale Leadership programme which was funded through CPD (Continuing Professional Development) allocation, reflecting the Trust’s ongoing commitment to developing leadership and supporting learning.

International Nurses Day is a day that recognises the vital contributions of nurses worldwide. The service provided a moment for reflection on the values at the heart of nursing, themed on unity, inclusion and compassion along with the true meaning of care, where staff are not defined by their role or title, but by actions and shared purpose.
Kim, Laura, Inuba and Gary were in the presence of royalty, politicians and clergy, who helped resonate with the night’s theme of “there is more that unites us than divides us”- reinforcing the importance of multidisciplinary working, serving as a reminder that strong collaboration is nurtured through valuing each contribution, listening to every voice and working together across all specialities and professions from Nurses, Doctors, Allied Health Professionals and support staff delivering the best possible care for our communities together.

We hope you all enjoyed your special day! 🩵

Today marks Operating Department Practitioner Day which recognises the vital role they play, not only in our hospitals but across the UK. They are responsible for preparing the operating theatre and maintaining communication between the surgical team, operating theatre and wider hospital. They typically work in operating departments however their skills are used in lots of other critical care areas within a hospital.

Thank you to all of our ODPs across the Trust for your amazing hard work and support.

May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month – highlighting one of the 10 most common cancers in the UK. It affects all ages, both men and women, with almost three quarters of cases occurring in men.

You might notice blood in your urine just once, or many times. It could be a tiny spot, a few streaks, or it might change the colour of your urine completely.

However it appears, blood in your urine isn’t normal and should always be checked by your GP.
