Disturbed sleep and difficulties around bedtime are very common in people with dementia. Below are a few key elements to try and promote good sleep for people living with Dementia -
⭐Keep the bedroom at a comfortable temperature depending on the season.
⭐Use black-out blinds/curtains to help block out daylight and help distinguish day/night.
⭐Ensure bedding is suitable for the weather and comfortable to sleep in. Soft bedding and the appropriate tog duvet for the season.
⭐Ensure comfortable nightwear that is appropriate for the season.
⭐Put an easy-to-read clock next to their bed to help them understand whether it’s time to get up.
⭐Leave a nightlight on in their room, hallway and/or bathroom in case they need to use the bathroom during the night.
⭐If they wear incontinence pads, ensure they are comfortable and will last the night.
