We encourage patients to attend for their cervical screening when invited, even in the absence of symptoms. Screening remains one of the most effective evidence-based measures for cervical cancer prevention.

The surgery will close at 4.00pm on Wednesday 31st December 2025.

‼️In an emergency, patients should call 111 or 999

Between 4.00pm - 6.30pm calls will be diverted to DHU Telephone: 0300 323 0671

Patients may attend one of the following locations during the times of 4.00pm - 6.30pm:
• Merlyn Vaz Health Centre - 1 Spinney Hill Road, Leicester LE5 3GH
• Oadby Urgent Treatment Centre - 18 The Parade, Leicester LE2 5BJ
• Loughborough Urgent Treatment Centre - Loughborough Hospital Way, Loughborough LE12 5JY

Between 4.00pm - 6.30pm, online access will be open for non-urgent electronic requests via the NHS App or the practice website. These requests will be responded to on the next working day.

The surgery will be closed for the bank holiday Thursday 1st January 2026 and will re-open 8am Friday 2nd January 2026.

💫 Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Week

🫀 What is Atrial Fibrillation (AF)?
AF is the most common type of irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). It happens when the upper chambers of your heart (atria) beat in a fast, irregular rhythm - which can make your heart less efficient and increase your risk of stroke.

👀 What should you look out for?
• Irregular or fluttering heart beat
• Shortness of breath
• Fatigue or feeling unusually tired
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Chest discomfort

📈 What increases your risk?
• High blood pressure
• Heart disease or heart failure
• Diabetes
• Obesity
• Excessive alcohol or caffeine intake
• Sleep apnea
• Increasing age

🛑 How to prevent AF?
• Keep blood pressure and cholesterol under control
• Stay active
• Limit alcohol intake
• Avoid smoking
• Maintain a healthy diet
• Manage stress
• Check your pulse regularly
