🌞 HEATWAVE ALERT – STAY SAFE, IBSTOCK! 🌞
With temperatures soaring across Leicestershire, we’re reminding everyone in Ibstock to take extra care during the current heatwave. Whether you're working, relaxing at home, or heading out, here are a few important tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:
🔹 Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks where possible.
🔹 Keep Cool Indoors
Close curtains and blinds during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm). Use fans if you have them, and try to stay in the coolest room in your home.
🔹 Avoid the Midday Sun
If you need to go outside, aim for early morning or later in the evening. Wear loose, light-coloured clothing, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat.
🔹 Look Out for Others
Check in on older relatives, neighbours, and anyone who may struggle in the heat—especially those living alone or with health conditions.
🔹 Don’t Forget Pets!
Ensure pets have plenty of water and shade. Avoid walking dogs on hot pavements—if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
🔹 Be Heatwave Aware
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, headache, nausea, excessive sweating, and muscle cramps. If symptoms worsen, seek medical help urgently.
👉 Local tip: Ibstock’s shaded areas like Sence Valley Forest Park can offer a cooler spot for a quiet walk—just be sure to bring water and avoid peak heat times.
