A great couple of days helping to man the RAMP stand at BEVA congress, spreading the word about the importance of using regulated professionals. It was really interesting browsing the exhibition, learning about some new and really innovative products, chatting to other professionals from various disciplines and managed to sit in on a couple of interesting lectures too.

RAMP does such a fantastic job and relies heavily on volunteers, I am pleased to have been able to be a small part of it - looking for new applications for council if any of my Physio/Chiro/Osteo colleagues would like to get involved!

🎉Find us at BEVA stand D22!🎉

We've had a great first day talking to Vets, registrants and industry professionals. Looking forward to another busy day today!

🍂September (& October) Availability🍂

It's been a super busy summer seeing all of your lovely horses, Flo and I really enjoyed a last outing up to Hartpury for the RC dressage champs. September is looking busy, I am looking forward to spending a couple of days on the RAMP stand at BEVA and attending some CPD training days as well as trying to take a day or 2 for myself 🙈. If you are waiting for me to schedule appointments for you in Oct/Nov please feel free to prompt me.

🫣 Very last August appointments ☀️

This month I have enjoyed playing with 'stickers' aka kinesio tape after attending a recent course (all RAMP register practitioners have to do 25+ hours of continued learning every year). I was sceptical initially and as everything it's not without a few limitations but after some experiments and some helpful feedback from all of my lovely clients, I am able to use it to complement my current practice and you can look forward to some colourful artworks on occasions ❤️.

Is HARD GROUND the HIDDEN ENEMY?!

There have been a lot of posts, warnings and advice about hard ground recently, a lot of very sensible and informative ones I must say.

But is hard ground really the HIDDEN enemy? ..to be honest I would say it's the pretty obvious one, you can hear it, you can feel it under your own feet and often in your horses way of going, you can see it with huge gaping cracks in the ground and most of us make allowances for it.

When everyone is shouting loudly about hard ground the HIDDEN ENEMY is often SOFT SURFACES. The ground is lacking moisture and so are our arena surfaces, this makes them deep and unstable putting more stretch and strain on our horses soft tissues particularly the ones doing faster work like cantering and jumping in them.

Surface quality and surface depth become even more important this time of the year with a recommended absolute minimum of 4 inches arena surface from both a soft tissue injury prevention point of view and also a slip/trip health and safety point of view. With more give and less stability you can be sure you are more likely to reach the bottom of the surface and much quicker if the depth is not at a safe level.

Consider ALL the surfaces you are working on your horse on, surface maintenance is an art to be timed around the weather gods or aided with a watering system if you are so lucky. Check for separation of sand and fibre surfaces which can be quite problematic and seek advice from professionals. Do not blissfully assume that all arena's are safer than your field, the one thing horses legs are not even a tiny bit acclimatised to at the moment is a deep soft surface.

Take the time to slow down, hack out and work on posture or position (horse & rider!).

Flo decided she should have been added to my 'work' day and have some blissful physiotherapy... She wasn't too enthusiastic about partaking in some 'work' herself 😂🙈. We compromised and went for a stroll around the fields, I promise it will be your turn again soon Flowy!
