We’ve definitely got that Friday feeling today – and it’s all thanks to our brilliant team at Woodlands Care Centre and the wonderful Denise!
We couldn’t help but smile (and tap our toes) watching this clip of Dave Parry singing “Do You Wanna Dance” at Woodlands Care Centre. Our fabulous resident Denise definitely hasn’t lost her moves, twirling and jiving along.

Live music really does lift the spirits, and moments like this show just how powerful it can be.
Here’s to dancing into the weekend with as much sparkle as Denise!

P.S. We’re also (not really) sorry if this song gets stuck in your head for the rest of the day! 😃

For the past decade, residents at Woodlands Care Centre have been getting creative with clay thanks to Bob Race, our much-loved pottery teacher and ceramic artist. His monthly workshops have become a highlight for many, offering not just the chance to make something with their hands, but to build confidence, connect with others, and enjoy the simple pleasure of creating.

Bob began running pottery sessions at the home in July 2014 and brings with him years of experience as both an artist and a teacher. Bob has exhibited his work in galleries such as the Byard in Cambridge and delivered pottery workshops in a variety of settings, including NHS hospitals and dementia care environments. His contribution to arts in healthcare has been recognised in the Best Practice Recognition Awards.

“The main benefits of the pottery workshops are enjoyment and a sense of confidence,” says Bob. “The piece of pottery at the end is just a colourful bonus.”

Lifestyle Lead Sarah shared, “Bob’s workshops are always uplifting. His patience, creativity, and sense of fun bring so much joy to our residents. He’s truly part of our Woodlands family.”

Bob is one of many talented individuals whose expertise—whether in the arts like painting, pottery, music, and drama, or through activities such as gardening, reminiscence therapy, physical exercise, or holistic practices like Reiki, massage, and yoga—enhances the wellbeing of residents across our homes.

Sunday spotlight on flavour, feedback, and fresh ideas!

Park View Care Centre launched its very first Kitchen Council and food tasting session—and it was a huge success!

Residents, relatives, and team members gathered around the table to sample some delicious new dishes, share their thoughts, and help shape the home’s future menus. The room was full of laughter, conversation, and the mouth-watering aroma of homecooked food.

The result? Two brand new resident-approved meals made it onto the menu—along with a selection of freshly baked homemade rolls!

At RCH Care Homes, we believe that choice, collaboration, and great food are all part of feeling at home.

💬 What flavours do you think made the final cut? Let us know your guesses—or tell us what dish you think every care home menu should include!

At RCH Care Homes, we know that wellbeing is about more than care—it’s about creating joyful, meaningful moments. This week, residents from Queens Court Care Home joined the Dementia Friends Group and Epping Forest District Council for a truly special journey on the Memory Train, travelling the scenic Epping Ongar Railway from North Weald to Ongar.

Our brilliant Lifestyle Lead, Liza Street, helped organise for our residents to be part of this event with the support of Karren Murray. This uplifting experience brought smiles, stories, and a sense of togetherness that will be remembered for a long time to come.

Meeting the Mayor, Chairwoman, and Vice Chairman of EFDC made the day even more memorable.

💬 Feeling inspired? We’d love to know—what’s been your most memorable train journey?

Bringing joy, calm and connection with the Happiness Programme! 💙

At RCH Care Homes, we’re so proud to see the continued impact of the Happiness Programme using the 360 Projector from Social-Ability, already in use across several of our homes – including at Woodlands Care Centre Care Centre in Cambridge.

This brilliant piece of technology is part of the Happiness Programme – a collaboration between Social-Ability , the Alzheimer's Society ciety and Sport England – and it’s transforming daily life for our residents. From sparking smiles to stimulating the senses, it’s designed to promote mental and physical wellbeing through a wide range of interactive, inclusive games and activities.

Sarah, our Lifestyle Lead at Woodlands, shares:

“The Happiness Programme is packed with interactive games that support memory, attention, and coordination.
It’s especially beneficial for residents living with dementia or cognitive decline.
Residents often enjoy playing together, which encourages conversation and reduces loneliness. Some games are soothing and sensory – perfect for helping reduce agitation. The staff love it too!”

📚 Sundays are made for stories…

Thanks to a kind donation from Gidea Park Library, Romford Care Home now has three lovely lounge libraries—and a Mobile Library too!

Each week, residents Sheila and David proudly take their book trollies around the home, making sure everyone has something new to read. 💙

David says he feels important doing his rounds, and Sheila even popped by the manager’s office to make sure she got to pick a book too!

It’s become a heart-warming tradition—and the perfect way to relax, connect, and enjoy a good story 💫

What better way to head into the weekend than by celebrating our residents' creativity and craftsmanship?

At Park View Care Centre Centre in Ashford, residents recently took part in a unique lifestyle experience—crafting their very own Park View Gin! 🍋🌿🍓

They explored herbs, fruits and berries, carefully choosing flavours to infuse into their bespoke blends. After allowing time for the infusions to develop, everyone came back together for a relaxed afternoon of gin tasting—and the results were absolutely delicious!

🥂 “The residents really embraced the process, and it was brilliant to see how proud they were of their final creations,” said Darren Humby, General Manager. “Who knows? We may have the next great artisan gin distillers right here in Ashford!”

Here's to ending the week with a little flavour, fun and friendship.
Cheers to ! 💜

Park View Are off and walking!

Yesterday was Day 1 of Park View Care Centre virtual Walkathon raising awareness and money for the Salvation Army— and what a start they made! 🚶‍♀️💪

Together, residents, team members, and General Manager Darren Humby from our nursing and residential home in Ashford kicked off their challenge by clocking up a brilliant 31,369 steps, putting them virtually near Penzance as they aim to ‘virtually walk’ all the way from John o’ Groats to Land’s End!

They are doing it to raise £2,000 for The Salvation Army United Kingdom and Ireland Territory. You can donate via their Just Giving page here- https://www.justgiving.com/page/darren-humby-1?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL&utm_campaign=015

💬 Darren shared: “The residents loved it, they loved the fact we’re supporting the Salvation Army — and when we finished, they wanted to go again!”

Supporting our culinary teams to grow, learn and innovate is a key part of our commitment to quality — which is why our recent training day with Brakes was such a valuable experience.

Our talented culinary teams recently took part in an inspiring development day at the Brakes Innovation Centre.

The session focused on all things meat — from understanding the journey from farm to fork, to trialling exciting new dishes.

The day included:

🔸 A hands-on masterclass from Development Chef Danny Silcock
🔸 A deep dive into meat sourcing and appreciation with Katie Staton
🔸 A chance for our chefs to collaborate, create and sharpen their skills

This investment in our teams, supported by passionate suppliers, is what sets us apart. It’s not just about what’s on the plate — it’s about the knowledge, care, and creativity that goes into every meal we serve.

Thank you to Brakes for your ongoing support, and to our brilliant teams for their energy, feedback and dedication to always raising the bar.
