A fresh new look and a lovely new space to enjoy 💙

We’ve recently opened our newly refurbished kitchenette, dining and living room! These spaces are such an important part of daily life here, from shared meals to conversations to quiet cups of tea and time together.

This project has been a big one and it’s only the beginning - we’re excited to continue refreshing more areas around the home over the coming months ✨

Thank you to The Carer for sharing this story! 🥰

Recently at Edenmore Nursing Home in North Devon, the afternoon was filled with the sound of music as the home was visited by the Ilfracombe Ukulele Pluckers.

To mark the 81st anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), students from Ilfracombe Junior School visited us to share their World War II projects! Family members spent time looking over their workbooks and enjoyed chatting with the children. One child told later his teacher, 'I think I made that lady's day!' 🇬🇧

Today, we're marking VE Day with music playing, cake on the tables and time spent together reflecting on the moment peace was declared in Europe 81 years ago. ❤️

For many people living at the home, VE Day is not just part of history. It is something from their own lifetime, recognised through wartime songs, shared stories and moments spent together throughout the day.

We recently spent an afternoon singing and dancing along to a fantastic performance from the Ilfracombe Ukulele Pluckers! 🎶🥁🎸 Peter, Harry, Diana and Susan especially enjoyed getting on their feet and up close to the band, with Susan dancing for an hour!

A table set for more than just a meal. Puzzles, a soft toy, or a newspaper become something to pick up or look at while sitting down to eat. For those who take a little longer, or don’t always feel like eating, having something nearby to focus on and engage with can make all the difference.

In bedrooms too, a favourite item on the table can be the small, personal touch that makes it feel like their own space, not just somewhere to eat, and offers the chance for quiet interaction. 🍽☕

Harry stood by the window, keeping his hands busy with his ‘ironing’ and spending time in the laundry area. For some people living with a Dementia, everyday household tasks and chores can bring a sense of comfort and purpose, through doing something that feels familiar and part of a routine. 👚

Some moments of connection. ❤ Hands held while swaying to music, an arm gently linked, the reassurance and comfort of touch. Small, familiar gestures that bring people closer. Nothing forced, just time spent side by side, responding to each other in the moment.

Looking back at our Easter bonnet making from a few weeks ago. For those who chose to take part, tables were covered with bits and pieces to decorate with, from flowers and chicks to bright stickers, with time taken to decide where everything should go. Once they were finished, the hats were worn proudly, with plenty of smiles and a few laughs shared along the way. 🐣

Recently, the Ilfracombe Ukulele Pluckers treated us to an afternoon of music, with plenty of singing and dancing! Some people chose to get up on their feet and close to the performers, while others were happy to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. Familiar songs had lots of us joining in, with a few favourites even getting a second round. Susan was up and dancing for an hour and encouraged everyone to give big rounds of applause after every song!🥁🎸🎶
