Some shoulder TLC ⏳

I’m as much an advocate for the consistent use of exercise in my treatment as the next evidence based practitioner. However, sometimes I find it useful to incorporate hands on treatment as part of a multi-factorial approach to injury rehabilitation with some of my clients if the right situation arises… here is an example!

Durability and maintaining good levels of performance💪🏼💪🏼

I would argue that as well as progressive overload during a training block, individuals should have a second eye on maintaining their own bodies. Key word: durability. Addressing pains during particular movements is likely going to benefit your training anyway, so why stunt your performance by pushing through it. Thoughts??

Movement is Medicine 💊🩹

When you cut your finger how often do you go about your business like nothing happened? But, when individuals with a sprained ankle or chronic lower back pain come into clinic they think movement avoidance is best.

We need movement if a tissue is injured to facilitate healing and get rid of swelling and waste. In fact, the general consensus in the literature is that optimally loading damaged tissue with proper exercises as soon as possible following injury can actually accelerate healing of muscle and bone.

Keep in mind that too much activity or aggressive movement might make things worse, but don’t sit on your arse if you’re injured eh? get yourself moving, you’ll probably thank me later💃🏻🕺🏼.

Something pretty crazy for your Tuesday evening. Although it’s quite freaky, seeing the complete nervous system like this is amazes me 🧠

This right here controls EVERYTHING you do. Every movement both voluntary and involuntary controlled by neural pathways. It’s important to understand that rehabbing or training for strength, power, or speed isn’t just about muscles.

Neuroplasticity, or the ability of the brain to recognise and form new neural connections can play a vital role during training and education. In a sense you can re-wire your brain, and if repeated enough even re-write functional movement patterns to improve how efficiently you move. Whether this is to move better in every day life or on the field of play, there’s no arguing that the brain is an amazing thing (and that’s just the small % that is currently known🤯).

Generating resilient, ‘bulletproof’ shoulders for contact field based athletes.

Here’s some recent work with a young rugby player with previous history of some pretty nasty shoulder injury from this week. Over the coming months we aim to prescribe exercises like these that activate the Rotator Cuff and build good shoulder stability for his future endeavours in the coming season.
