Rebecca Boddington - SLT Services

Rebecca Boddington - SLT Services I’m Rebecca Boddington, a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. I work with adults with neurological communication and swallowing needs. Hello!

I visit in your home. I cover North and West Yorkshire. I am Rebecca Boddington (Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist). Having left the NHS in 2024, I bring with me nearly a decade of experience working with adults who have acquired a communication and/or swallowing difficulty. The majority of my work has been with people who have a diagnosis affecting the brain, including motor neurone

disease, Parkinson's, dementia, Huntington's disease, MS, brain tumour and stroke. I also have experience working with respiratory, elderly medicine and surgical specialties. I am deeply passionate about supporting and empowering my clients to live well, through evidence-based, holistic and thoughtful therapeutic management. I offer services for individuals in their own homes and care settings. I have highly developed skills in assessment of communication and/or swallowing needs, as well as mental capacity. I can provide and deliver comprehensive therapy plans which target meaningful, functional gains in the context of your daily life. I am keen that my service is not in opposition or a duplicate of NHS provision, but an enhanced offering which mitigates the challenges clients may experience accessing care due to waiting times or commissioning. I have current HCPC registration (23/25) and can be searched on the register via 'Boddington' or 'SL33471'. I am fully insured as a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy. I am a member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. I would love to talk more about what I could offer, please do get in touch for a free consultation.

I really enjoyed reading Irma Donaldson’s (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists) reflections on the opportunities which can be found in times of difficulty in the recent Bulletin.

The idea of continuous exploration really resonated with me. I never expected to be an independent speech and language therapist, but a very challenging time prompted me to explore different opportunities.

I found the article valuable in allowing me to reflect on what I have achieved over the last year or two, how much has changed and how much my core values have anchored me along the way.

🦙 Meet my friend Diego ...

😍During the Easter holidays I had the sheer joy of walking alpacas in the Lake District with my family.

☕The calm and beauty walking the Lingholme Estate and taking in the views with my new favourite pal definitely refilled my cup.

🔋Real rest isn't just about stopping; it's about creating the mental space to come back better and it is these moments which help me to do the best for my clients.

After a busy return from the Easter break, I wanted to share a few highlights from what has been an energising week. ✨

🤝 I had the pleasure of consulting with an NHS Speech and Language Therapist around care home training. This was a wonderful reminder that whether we work in the NHS or independent practice, we are one profession united by a shared commitment to our clients.

💬 I also connected with a fellow SLT who has recently made the move into private practice. Sharing ideas, offering support, and celebrating the incredible breadth of what our profession has to offer was invaluable.

🧠 Then behind the scenes, I have been weaving together strands from across my SLT toolkit: Better Conversations, Acceptance and Commitment principles, Talking Mats supported decision-making, and even a supermarket visit for some real-world functional practice. This kind of holistic, person-centred work is exactly why I love what I do.

A small snapshot of a big week! If you'd like to find out more about the work I do, feel free to get in touch. 💙

Wonderful final session with the Huddersfield Branch of Parkinson's UK yesterday.

We’ve had a fantastic 5 weeks looking at all things communication, swallowing and advance care planning.

It has been a whistle stop tour but the feedback has been excellent 👌

Thank you so much for having me and hope to see you later in the year for another run!

It is swallowing awareness day 2026!

The RCSLT has some lovely information about what we do as SLTs working with people who have swallowing difficulties.

This is the often ‘unseen’ but equally essential part of SLT practice.

Lots of people don’t realise it falls into our scope of practice or don’t know you can have swallowing problems, until they or a family member/friend experience them.

Today is a great opportunity to be more informed!

I am really looking forward to attending the MND Association Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Principles training today.

I have been really interested in this approach and what it can add to my work since it was the topic of the annual Stephen Hawking lecture a year or two ago.

I work with lots of people who are living with progressive neurological conditions or have experienced a life changing neurological event. I also volunteer as an association visitor, supporting people living with MND. I feel these principles align with my values and can really enhance my approach both personally and professional.

Looking forward to learning more as a clinician and doing more for my clients with my new skills!

🤩 I am thrilled to be running another Communication and Swallowing Café for Parkinson's UK, this time with the Huddersfield branch.

😍We have been overwhelmed with enthusiasm and interest which is excellent!

😁Our first session is tomorrow and aims to offer reliable information, communication opportunities and peer support.

🤗 We learned so much from the initial pilot and this next run of slightly fewer, activity focused sessions will build on the generous feedback from the people who attended at the Leeds branch.

During the Christmas break (oh so long ago!) I enjoyed some time reflecting on my experiences in 2025.

- The kitchen tables I have sat at, the joy and pain shared, the generous thanks, recommendations and kind words.

- The professional communities which have welcomed and supported me.

- The things I have learned - personally and professionally.

2026 has begun with a clearer vision, bigger aspirations and increasing confidence ...

What is the learning you're bringing with you from 2025?
