This is the current pile of books I am working my way through - I recently finished Maggie O' Farrell's The Marriage Portrait and felt sad that I didn't know if I would ever enjoy a book as much as I did that one!
There can be so much pleasure in reading, the richness of the language, the focussed attention and the quiet busyness of our minds. It is a silent communication with the author and our imagination, another form of connection.
For people with communication needs, reading may be challenging day-to-day, accessing letters in the post, reading street signs etc. Whilst, for some people, reading for pleasure, beyond the functional, can be of great significance in their lives and to their wellbeing.
Speech and language therapy is about both functionality and personal-significance and the joy of working independently is service provision doesn't dictate our goals with the value of wellbeing and sense of self taking priority.
If reading brings you the same enjoyment it does to me, but has become more difficult due to a change in your communication, it may be that speech and language therapy can help.
