Winter Foot Care Tips ❄️

As the weather gets colder, it's important to keep taking care of your feet. Here are some helpful tips to maintain foot health during the winter months.

Keep Feet Warm and Dry:
• Opt for thick socks or layer two thinner pairs. Wool socks are fantastic for warmth. If your socks get wet, switch to dry ones as soon as possible.

Choose the Right Footwear:
• Select warm, supportive, insulated shoes with good grip. Waterproof boots are ideal if the weather is wet or snowy. Avoid tight footwear as this can restrict blood circulation to your feet.

Maintain Foot Hygiene:
• Continue to wash your feet daily with soapy water, even when the weather is cold, ensuring you dry well between the toes. Regularly moisturise your feet to prevent dry, cracked skin.

Keep Moving:
• Staying active boosts blood flow, which helps to keep your feet warm. Try to avoid sitting or standing for prolonged periods.

Did you know an Athlete’s foot infection can go unnoticed?

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that occurs on the foot. It can be picked up by walking barefoot in changing rooms or anywhere else someone has walked barefoot with Athlete’s foot. Athlete’s foot thrives in the moist, warm environment provided by footwear.

Athlete’s foot is usually itchy, it can appear as a white, moist area between the toes or as a dry scaly rash. It is sometimes mistaken for dry skin.

Untreated, Athlete’s foot can increase the likelihood of developing fungal nail infections and may make you more susceptible to secondary skin infections.

Podiatrists are experts at diagnosing, treating and advising on the prevention of Athlete’s foot.
