What is Spinal Manipulation?

Spinal Manipulation involves applying a High Velocity Low Amplitude (HVLA) Thrust (a quick, low force movement) to a joint in the spine. This can help to restore “normal” range of motion within the joint and alleviate any pain or discomfort.

This technique sometimes produces a recognisable ‘clicking’ sound - this is produced from gas bubbles bursting as a result of pressure changes within the joint (it is not the sound of bones rubbing together or moving back into place!) However, we do not always need to hear the ‘click’ in order for the manipulation to have been effective.

Spinal Manipulation is yet another tool added to my kit bag which can be incorporated into your treatments (when appropriate) to help you to move and feel better 🤍

A huge shout out to this local business. For the first time in close to a year after a visit to Margot yesterday, I had a pain free sleep. I am so very very grateful, see you next month!

Another CPD in the bag!

Although I don’t offer a specific Pilates for Runners class, all of my classes are beneficial for runners of all levels (and we have quite a few of you attending regularly).

Pilates can help to develop strength, stability and flexibility and therefore improve the functional movement patterns of runners. Regular Pilates has been shown to help reduce the risk of running related injuries and improve the skill, strength and performance of runners.

I loved delving deeper into the biomechanics of running through this course and look forward to incorporating some fresh new ideas into classes.

All of my Pilates classes are currently fully booked but please get in touch if you’re interested in joining us and would like added to the waiting list.

N O W O F F E R I N G C U P P I N G

Myofacial Cupping is a traditional therapy which involves placing cups onto the skin and creating a suction (using a pump gun) with the aim to help release tissue tension and increase circulation. Cups can be left to sit on the skin for a short period or glided over the area. Although the effects are similar to that of a massage, the sensation is entirely different as we are lifting and gliding the tissues (decompressing) rather than compressing through massage.

This technique isn’t for everyone (the photos may just gross you out and marks can last on the skin for up to a week) but loads of you have asked for it and feedback so far has been excellent. If you would like to find out more then let’s chat at your next appointment!

What a glorious morning on Bennachie! ☀️

After injuring my back ten years ago, when walking five minutes to the shop was too much, to now running around the hills pain free is an amazing feeling! It has been a long road and I still manage some lower back stiffness as a result, however, I’m feeling stronger than ever! I don’t time my runs or track my distance, I just soak it all up and feel so grateful that my body allows this to happen. As a bonus I have learned so much about back pain along the way which I’m able to share with you all 💚
