September Group Antenatal Hypnobirthing Course ✨

I’ve had a wonderful 2 days talking all things birth with this lovely group (we’re missing a couple of them in this pic 🫶🏻).
They’ve completed their hypnobirthing course, and we’re meeting again for Life With Your Newborn over the next couple of weeks.

Wishing them all the best in the birth of their babies 🥰🙌🏻

If you’re interested in joining an antenatal course with me, the next one is in October! Booking in bio 🤍

Picture this… you’re wherever you’re planning to have your baby (home, midwife-led unit, hospital). You’ve been offered and you’ve accepted a vaginal examination. Your cervix is 6cm dilated.

4 hours later, you’re offered another one. You say yes. No change, you’re 6cm dilated.

…It’s important to understand why this can happen (because when it does, further intervention and its associated risks are more likely). This is an explanation of common reasons why labour can stall:

✨Biomechanical
Perhaps there’s something going on with baby’s position. The way they are positioned can impact length of labour. Learn about this in pregnancy and what you can do to optimise it. Learn how to soften your ligaments in both pregnancy and labour too if needed, to give baby the space they need.

✨Fear
If you’re scared, you’ll produce adrenaline. Great if you need to run away or fight something. Absolutely crap if you’re in labour - it’ll often slow surges/contractions because your brain is telling your body it isn’t safe to labour right now. Learn how you can remove this fear and control it if it creeps in.

✨Medicalisation
A complex one, but ultimately not all labours are the same length, and cervixes don’t all dilate at the same rate. Guidelines are there but always be mindful of when you accept a vaginal examination, what it can mean for you and your current situation. What are the benefits? What are the risks?

You can learn more about all of this in my pregnancy yoga & antenatal hypnobirthing classes 🤍

Introducing…BRACKLEY BABY CLUB 🤎

A year ago, we (Rachel & Rosie) created Bumps, Babies, Coffee & Cake sessions - monthly meets for local expectant parents & those with new babies. An opportunity to get out the house, connect with others, ask questions, swap items & advice, and feel less alone at what can be a vulnerable time.

Fast forward one year, and we’ve got over 100 mums on our local chat. We’ve had monthly coffee & park sessions and it’s been wonderful! We’ve had Christmas & Easter Specials too, all so much fun!

Our meets are having a little glow up, and from September we’ll be holding space once a month for those expecting or with little ones age 0-12months at Brackley Baby Club 🤩

We’ll share details of each session on here () & our own socials. There’ll be refreshments, suitable toys, seasonal crafts/photo/keepsake opportunities, access to our supportive chat and other local businesses joining us (if you want to be involved, please get in touch).

New baby? We’d love to see you there! 🥰

Our first club is 22nd September • 12:30 - 1:45pm • Egerton Hall
And for our first session we’ll be joined by
👶🏻 with their gorgeous soft play

📚 Jo from Little Owls Bookshop with some lovely books available
(Come and go when you like, it’s a relaxed space and we encourage you to be led by your baby’s needs).

PREGNANCY YOGA 🌈

When I say I’m obsessed with pregnancy yoga and all its benefits, I mean it!!

It feels so right for me to be teaching these classes. I’m able to use my knowledge as both a pregnancy yoga teacher & midwife, supporting expectant mums with movement, breathwork & connection, whilst offering valuable tips and insights to hopefully help you achieve the labour / birth experience you want 🌈

All pregnancy yoga classes can be booked via the link in my bio 🫶🏻

Birth of your placenta - my top tips! 🤍

Did you know you have choices around this part of labour?!
Here are some things to consider:

✨Do you want it to be physiological or active?
Physiological means waiting for a spontaneous urge to push it out, Active means having an injection to assist it, with gentle cord traction from the midwife. Read around the differences. Consider your situation (e.g risks for bleeding), and talk to your midwife.

✨ An undisturbed first hour.
Yes, it’s not always possible but where you can, aim to have this first hour undisturbed (that means leaving baby on your chest to go through their natural process to find your breast). Weighing and Vitamin K administration can wait if you & baby are well.

✨ Delayed cord clamping.
Read about it. A baby has approximately a third of their blood in their placenta still at birth. The definition of ‘delayed’ is waiting more than a minute, but can we wait longer? (This applies to active third stage. In physiological, cord pulsation stops when complete).

✨ Any requests?
Do you want to see it? Take photos? Encapsulate?

✨ Skin to skin and maybe feed whilst you wait. The oxytocin you produce here will only help with the delivery of your placenta.

✨ What do you want in your ideal birth, and in other situations?
E.g if you have an unplanned caesarean you can highlight that you want delayed cord clamping for as long as is appropriate to your situation.

The key theme that runs through all of this? COMMUNICATION!

Here’s some ways you can connect to your little one in pregnancy and when they’re born. 🫶🏻

Building connection with your baby, with yourself and with other mums is one of the things I love about pregnancy yoga and mum & baby yoga 🥰

Mum & Baby Yoga ✨
Fridays • 12:30-1:45
New Block starting 12th September (5 week course)
£60 (discount available for hypnobirthing or pregnancy yoga Mamas)
Trial option also available!
Suitable for 2-12 months postnatal

Come and join me for a beautiful class of breathwork, movement & connection. We’ll spend some time doing some yoga for us Mums, whilst your little love is by your side (or playing close by!).
Some of our movement can be done together with your baby, and they can enjoy our relaxation to close (bubbles, lights & sensory parachute). 🫧

As a Mum, I get the anxiety that can come with new groups/classes. Please be reassured that I encourage you to be led by your baby’s needs - feed, cuddle, change as you need to.

Optional coffee and a chat to other new Mums at the end to help you build connections. ☕️

Here’s some things you’ll hear me saying about breastfeeding 👆🏻

My other biggest tip, naturally - education. Learn about positioning & attachment and what to expect before your little one arrives. Because, it’s a journey, and you can get it all off to a better start this way 🤍
