Our PFW Cheery Book Club just celebrated its fourth birthday and members have unveiled the top ten books they read and discussed over the past 12 months. Clearly local author, Barbara Henderson, who gave a talk during our Festival of Walking and Wheeling last year, made a big impression.

Many of our community transport volunteers gathered yesterday for an update on our charity's activities, future plans and latest safety guidelines. Those who were not camera-shy agreed to be in the picture as PFW's Fiona demonstrated how to steer an invisible car.

Eat your heart our NASA! In the past 12 months our transport volunteers covered the same distance as six trips around the moon.
That's more than 10,000 journeys a year taking older and disabled adults to important medical, therapy and day-care appointments.
If you have a few hours to spare each week, find our about becoming a driver or passengers assistant. Call Fiona on 01463 729997 or email admin@pfw.org.uk. No spacesuit required.

Congratulations to Rhoda and Pat MacTavish - regular clients on our Community Transport Service and Friendship Club outings. They celebrated their diamond anniversary earlier this week and in lieu of gifts, they asked their guests to make a donation to Partnerships for Wellbeing. That raised an amazing £850. Thank you so much, it's really appreciated and we hope you had a great day among such generous friends.

Did you know that there’s a weekly Nordic Walking session in Inverness for people with Parkinson’s? We met up with Karen Powell who runs the weekly sessions on Thursdays, 3pm, at Torvean Park.

Karen’s Nordic Walking groups will be part of the Walking and Wheeling Festival in June this year.

There is lots of evidence which shows the many benefits.

From britishnordicwalking.org.uk
Why is Nordic Walking an effective and enjoyable exercise for people with Parkinson’s?

⭐️Enhances a natural walking style enabling you to maintain your stride and posture, and your confidence in walking.
⭐️Maintains neuroplasticity of your brain and positively challenges your coordination.
⭐️Give you stability through the use of specially designed poles and the correct Nordic Walking technique.
⭐️Improves both upper body and lower body strength, as well as increasing bone density.
⭐️Boosts cardiovascular and general fitness.
⭐️Gives you the chance to enjoy the fresh air and the sociability of being in a group.

The Press & Journal article about Beatrice Ingram's return to Inverness Castle appeared at the weekend, with a link to the short video we made about how one of our volunteer driver's arranged for her to get a sneak preview of the restoration work during one of our community transport journeys to the Mackenzie Resource Centre

Beatrice began her long life amid the court house and prison of the iconic Inverness landmark.

Harry Gow Bakery have been running a fundraising campaign throughout the month of March, to raise funds for Mikeysline.
They have created Bee Cupcakes, with all proceeds going to Mikeysline.
This is your last chance to grab a Cupcake, and support a local charity.
Our manager Jeff was lucky enough to have been bought one at the beginning of the month, and the Transport Team can confirm that they are delicious!

A fascinating two hours for a group of our volunteer drivers and passenger assistants yesterday as instructor Gavin updated the First Aid guidance with some hand-on practice with CPR mannequins.

He also told us the story of how the face of the mannequin became known as the "most kissed woman in the world."

In the late 1800s, the body of an unidentified young woman was pulled from the River Seine in Paris. She showed no signs of violence, so it was widely believed she had died by su***de.

A pathologist at the Paris morgue was reportedly struck by her peaceful, almost faintly smiling expression and had a plaster death mask made of her face.

This mask became unexpectedly famous. Copies were sold across Paris and later Europe, earning her the name “L’Inconnue de la Seine” (The Unknown Woman of the Seine). Artists, writers, and intellectuals became fascinated by her enigmatic expression.

In the 1950s–60s, Norwegian toymaker Åsmund S. Lærdal was working with doctors to create a realistic mannequin for teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

He needed a human-like face that looked calm and non-threatening. He chose the face of L’Inconnue.

The result was Resusci Anne, introduced in 1960—the world’s first widely used CPR training mannequin.

The 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 visited the brand new Inverness Caledonian Thistle Community Development community hub building, opposite the IRA on Culduthel Road.

As we’re interested in all things walking we were particularly keen to hear about 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 ⚽️

In our latest edition of 'PFW Journeys' video stories, our volunteer driver John Furze describes how a chance comment by one regular client sparked a nostalgic visit to Inverness Castle. 98 year old Beatrice Ingram was born there on a snowy December in 1927. When castle bosses got to hear about that, they invited Beatrice and her granddaughter Leeanne to see how it had been transformed by the multi-million pound refurbishment. But, as driver John revealed, she'd already had an unofficial sneaky peek.
