I like to do this exercise in class in plank with either the knees up or down. These muscles help to stabilise the shoulder blades and torso in inversions so they need to be strong. To get the feel of the movement, you can start by leaning into the wall, straight arms, shoulders away from ears. Then take it into plank. We can get into the habit of always either dipping between the shoulder blades or rounding up, but it’s important to be able to do both.

A 50-g daily dose of prunes can prevent loss of total hip BMD in postmenopausal women after 6 mo, which persisted for 12 mo. Given that there was high compliance and retention at the 50-g dosage over 12 mo, we propose that the 50-g dose represents a valuable nonpharmacologic treatment strategy that....

I was recently looking at a forum article on osteoporosis and kept coming across comments about prunes! In my family, along with soup, prunes were just part of our daily intake - they have always been part of my wee mums diet ( which may explain why she's never broken any bones in spite of a couple of falls.) On further investigation, it seems that prunes have many benefits and can play a part in bone strengthening. Here's an article about US research but there are many other sources saying similar things. It seems around 6 prunes a day can not only keep you regular but benefit bone strength as well! (Not in syrup tho...!)

Eating prunes daily may protect bone structure and strength in postmenopausal women, slowing the progression of age-related bone loss and reducing the risk of fracture, according to a new study led by Penn State researchers. This is the first randomized controlled trial to look at three-dimensional....

This is a lovely read. Most of us start yoga for the physical practice because, if practiced mindfully and with sensible technique, it can make us feel physically better in many ways. Then, if you continue to practice with attention over a period of time, you begin to realise yoga's other subtle but amazing effects. Yoga is so much more than the physical practice. For me, the fascinating thing is that the other benefits it brings, the awareness and improvement of your breathing, the level mindset, the improved ability to deal not only with life's physical issues but its psychological challenges as well - all of these are happening in the background while we do the physical practice. Quietly and subtly. And you don't realise this until one day you discover that in some way, maybe handling a difficult situation or dealing with a disappointment, your reaction is different. And while we can be taught the techniques and ideas of yoga, we can only discover the benefits for ourselves. So you continue the practice - hopefully until around 101! ❤️
