Hazel Marr Yoga & Bodyworks

Hazel Marr Yoga & Bodyworks Yoga Teacher since 2006, Breath & Relaxation and Women's pelvic health coach. Details in About. I remained a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher until 2014.

My teaching and practice are rooted in 20 yrs of study of yoga and anatomy. I offer online/ in person classes, workshops, private tutoring and online courses. My yoga teaching certificate was gained from the Edinburgh Iyengar Yoga Centre in 2006 and I have taught yoga as my main occupation since that time. Since leaving the Iyengar Association, my teaching has been influenced and guided by ongoing training with more senior teachers, my personal practice and my continuing studies of anatomy, breathing and pelvic health. I am passionately committed to the huge and fascinating subject which is yoga. I teach online and in person group classes, workshops, private tutoring and courses in pelvic health . I have been fascinated by anatomy, breathing and movement for over 20 years and hold diplomas in Swedish, Sports & Remedial Massage and Yoga Anatomy Cert. As well as teaching yoga, I also work to promote education and discussion around women's pelvic and menopausal health. Being a coach with Adore Your Pelvic Floor provides me with access to current research and advice from some of the UK's top Pelvic Health Specialist Physios. AYPF holds regular CPD sessions on topics associated with pelvic health and dysfunction. I run 5 week AYPF pelvic health education courses in groups (online) or on a 1:1 basis (online/in person or a mix). I also do women's health workplace seminars. Here's the video which should have gone with the last post . Its a few minutes long. If you suffer from constipation or just want to give love to your bowels (I know its weird but go with it) give it a watch. This is how were designed to poo. Using a squatty potty and learning to breathe to relax your pelvic floor can be hugely helpful. I should mention that having run the AYPF courses since 2019, almost everyone on the course (and their families)
have found the Squatty Potty helpful. The few women who havent noticed much difference have been ladies with a re**al prolapse as they said they had to lean back not forward. I'd say its still worth giving it a go as I think you probably "wee" better as well in this position and its good for everyone in your family. (Worth mentioning, I'm not on commission - I should be!)

Why dont more people know about a squatty potty?! One of the many things you'll learn about in our Adore Your Pelvic Floor online health education course starting end of April, details below. If we don't talk about and learn about these things, you don't know symptoms to look out for, you dont know when to see a doctor and the questions to ask, what to teach you kids, what to tell your aging parents.

Another post coming shortly - before you go out, do you always go for a wee "just in case"? Why do you do that?? No doubt you were taught that by your mum, most of us were. Most parents with the best of intentions pass this habit on to their kids. Think about it. What is this doing to the natural volume trigger that tells your nervous system that your bladder is full? Hmmmm?! 🤔

Small groups, 6 week courses, max 10 women: evening course starting WEDNESDAY 29th April 6.30-7.45pm and lunchtime course starting THURSDAY 30th April 1pm - 2.15. I present and support you through the course. As soon as you sign up to the course you have an online 1:1 session with me and gain access to the course and supporting videos on the AYPF website. Message or email me on hazelmarryoga@gmail.com for more info.

We had a fantastic online Adore Your Pelvic Floor CPD session today re Pelvic Girdle and Back Pain with Chiropractor Nadine Chiro. Research now shows that often chronic back pain can be the result of a combination of factors, for example, injury, anatomy, stress, beliefs, work and environmental factors. Research also shows that back pain in women is often linked with pelvic floor dysfunction. A really interesting and informative session. Some of the other CPD sessions we've had recently are in the photo.

We had some fun in the Tuesday morning class this week, thanks to Helen bringing in a bunch of hazel wood sticks! In my own practice I often play around with a dowel rod to bring awareness to the back of my body which can be "unknown". Its often difficult to sense the alignment of the spine and head in poses, where the body is in space. The hazel sticks were great guides and felt very organic. We'll be doing some more of this is my next workshop end of April. Thank you for such a lovely photo ❤️🌷🌷

Really helpful video. Quite a few of my students have experienced this including myself at 52, my gp told me the most common age for women to get this. It was out the blue but with keeping things gently moving sorted out in about 6 months. Then the other one went. Patience and gentle movement. Always good to see a gp or physio if in doubt or pain. 🌷

Thanks to Donna for snapping a pic from the intermediate workshop at The Ledge Climbing Gym - ClimbInverness this morning. I wanted to look at different ways of coming up into headstand, elbow balance and arm balance so, having prepared the shoulders, we had a play around with these poses. Using two bolsters to get a sense of connecting the crown of the head to the inside of the tail bone, can allow you to get a sense of balancing in this pose (sandwich blocks in between if you're taller than 5ft 4) . You can take your feet onto a chair to help, bringing the chair in close and really piking the hips up above the shoulders. (I'd advise doing this with someone who can take the chair away once you're up, unless you can come down with complete control onto the chair).
Its always interesting to see a photo of yourself in a pose. I was advising some students to try a belt round the arms in this pose to add support but you cant do that here because of the bolsters. So I'd be telling myself to press MORE into the floor, to draw up more from the end of the tail bone to the back of the navel, to lift the sides of the hips and to energise and lift the legs more. Thanks to everyone for having a go! ❤️ Thanks Heather Kitchen Yoga for the bolster inspiration.

I like to do this exercise in class in plank with either the knees up or down. These muscles help to stabilise the shoulder blades and torso in inversions so they need to be strong. To get the feel of the movement, you can start by leaning into the wall, straight arms, shoulders away from ears. Then take it into plank. We can get into the habit of always either dipping between the shoulder blades or rounding up, but it’s important to be able to do both.
