Mikeysline attended the Su***de Prevention Event in Orkney yesterday alongside practitioners and members of the public to learn more about the support and services available in the area.
We heard keynote speakers from Su***de Prevention Scotland, RSABI and 3 Dads Walking, alongside a panel discussion made up of local service representatives, all outlining the work they're doing to raise awareness and reduce stigma.
It was a powerful day of engagement showing that together we can all bee the change and spread the message that it's ok not to be ok.

On Monday Iain Sinclair completed his charity challenge of swimming the full 60-mile length of the iconic Caledonian Canal. He gave himself 10 days but ended up reaching the finish line in Inverness in just 7!
The former Scottish rugby union pro chose to support Mikeysline, British Heart Foundation - Scotland and Crohn's & Colitis UK - three charities close to his heart in memory of his dear friends Colin (Boon) Maguire & Jenny Hastings.
We congratulated him canalside in our Hive on the Road support van and gave him a moment to reflect on this world first achievement.
Thank you, Iain - we are all incredibly proud of you and thankful for your support. ๐

TEXTLINE:
The Mikeysline text service was launched in December 2015. We have been supporting the people of the Highlands in their times of need ever since. It was the first of its kind in the UK.
By using a text line, as opposed to a phone line, anonymity is assured. This removes the awkwardness sometimes found in talking with a total stranger. ๐ท1 in 4 people will hang up when they use a phone line, the nerves taking over and sometimes, they arenโt quite able to get the words out. With a text line, this removes that โurgencyโ if you like. A moment can be taken, words can be deleted and time taken to really manage to put it into words how they are feeling.
In this current age of multimedia communications, it is a tragedy to think there are so many still feeling alone, isolated and not able to express their feelings. Weโre here to help.
A common misconception about Mikeysline is that it is only for young people. Thatโs not the case - we cater for all ages, and have been doing so since we were founded.
Our team of volunteers are there for you each and every day. Nobody has all the answers, but what they do have, is an understanding ear and guidance where we can. They do have time to support you when you need it most. Most of all, however, theyโre there for you.
The Hive
The Hive is the Highlandโs first out of hours mental health crisis centre, based at 19 Academy Street, Inverness. This ambitious local initiative provides a safe place to those who are in need of it. Coupled with our text service, the joint aim is to reduce social isolation. We want to help vulnerable people to maintain their mental health on a continuous basis.
The Hive is a place to attend without fear of being judged. It is a place for anyone aged 17 and up to come when they feel lost with nowhere to turn. Our staff and volunteers will lend an ear, be there for you and try to help you get through what you are feeling.
One of the main aims for the Hive is to provide an alternative. Instead of heading home and bottling up emotions, come to the Hive. In place of being trapped inside your own head, second guessing, the Hive is a platform to try and work it out. We promise we will try to help you through it.
We know we wonโt have all the answers โ we donโt profess to be experts. What we do promise is that we are there for you. Sharing your thoughts with an understanding ear can provide a different perspective, as well as the weight it will lift from your shoulders.
We promise you a warm welcome, a hot brew and we WILL listen.
