It is with sadness that we share news about the passing of Ray Haughey Sensei and Founder of Member Group Northern Martial Arts Studio in Caithness.
Ray had been living in Spain for the past few years and his senior students continue to share his teachings at the Club in Thurso. Our thoughts are with his students and family, rest in peace Sensei.

Some of the recent successful Kempo gradings that happened at Ardersier Kempo School, Kingsmills Kempo School, Smithton Kempo School and Kinlochbervie Kempo Iaido Martial Arts group. A great way to round off a fun year that has been full of hard work from all involved. Here is to a great 2025.

A successful evening of gradings, promotions and achievements. We have 2 new Yudansha who both achieved Shodan (1st Dan) in Kempo after a hard fought grading with good displays of technical ability and knowledge, well done to Malcolm Smith and Maggie Sweeney . Also the promotion of Sensei Katy Mitchell to Yondan (4th Dan) in Kempo. Also the recognition of Sam Barnes as an instructor and Sensei. Thanks to all involved and to Sensei Kevin Shorthouse for being a part of the grading panel. Congratulations to you all.

Congratulations to Sam Barnes from Member Group Kinlochbervie Kempo and Iaido martial arts who gained Shodan in Kempo this evening and was also awarded the position Assistant Instructor. It was unfortunate not all candidates were successful this evening but some more training will make it a success next time. Thanks again to our Uki's and to the Instructors from Smithton Kempo School, Ardersier Kempo School, Kingsmills Kempo School and Black Dragon Scotland for overseeing proceedings.

Good luck to the candidates who are testing for Black Belt level grades tomorrow. Masters and Instructors from various Member Groups are travelling to Inverness (weather permitting for some) and will be keeping a carefully eye on proceedings. Certainly not the end of the road but the start of a new exciting journey.
