Marie Law Pilates

Marie Law Pilates Pilates is a series of exercises developed & taught by Joseph Pilates. The aim of the method is to rebalance the muscles & recruit deep postural muscles.

Having always been an active person participating over the years in rowing, hiking, skiing and running I’ve always been appreciative of my physical fitness and maintaining it. While working in Norway as a Project Manager in the Oil Industry (my original career) I hurt my back for a 2nd time and it was diagnosed as a 2nd herniated/slipped disc, the 1st herniation had never been officially identified. Through my Chiropractor I was directed to Pilates for rehabilitation and to strengthen my back muscles. That was around 2010 in Stavanger where I found a fantastic studio with both mat and reformer classes. At this point I didn’t really know much about Pilates and had never encountered a reformer ‘machine’ before! Through Pilates I quickly noticed an improvement in my back health and very soon had ditched my gym membership and was doing 3, sometimes 4 Pilates classes per week. This allowed me to continue with the other outdoor pursuits I love, which especially in Norway are an important part of life. I also managed to fit in a ski season working as a Chalet Girl (albeit a mature one!) in the French Alps to coincide with my 40th Birthday and then one more ski season for good measure before returning to Aberdeen in 2013. Wanting to continue with my Pilates ‘habit’ on my return to Aberdeen I decided that along with attending classes I would like to become an instructor myself. Having achieved my certification in 2015 I’m excited to be starting to teach some classes in Aberdeen and at http://www.pilatesdundee.co.uk Although I initially came to Pilates for rehab and to allow me to continue with outdoor pursuits I have also found it to be a great stress reliever and would promote Pilates for both reasons.

Would you like to move more freely?

I teach the comprehensive method, Matwork, Reformer, Chair and Tower. Exercises adapted to suit your body and your needs.

I don’t have a typical Pilates client, I have all ages investing time in their own health and fitness so that they can enjoy doing the activities they love.

An 88 yr old lady who plays golf regularly
A 40 yr old man who’s had back pain for years but Pilates manages and strengthens it
A post natal client strengthening her body to care for herself and her new baby.

Lots of people who find that Pilates is good for mind, body and soul 🙏

I can’t quite believe that 2026 is my 10th year of teaching Pilates! After about 17 years of working in the Oil Industry I took a big leap and changed direction.

I started teaching Mat Pilates only, in Aberdeen, in various church halls, community centres and gyms. Since 2023 I’ve also been qualified as a comprehensive Pilates teacher which means I can teach on the large Pilates equipment.

This isn’t just ‘Reformer Pilates’ which is all over the news and social media. It’s a complete system, including the Reformer, Pilates Chair, Cadillac and Arc Barrel or spine corrector. I don’t have enough space for a full Cadillac so I have a ‘Tower’ instead, this gives part of the Cadillac functionality. I also have a spine corrector (not pictured).

Having knowledge and training in the full Pilates system helps me to find the most appropriate exercises for my private clients, whether that’s on the Mat or apparatus. Very often that’s a combination of all.

I also love teaching my group classes where I can reach a large number of people and share the Pilates joy 🤩
