Probably some of you have seen it/ heard about it. This has been circulating the internet for few weeks now and it's a very good representation of the current situation and level of treatment/care you get for your money. Not the first and I am sure not the last time we see something like this happening to British people going on a dental tourism to foreign countries. Range of services there vary from questionable treatment planning, quite often no planning at all as the patient arrives at the airport and is taken to surgery immediately after; heavily mutilated teeth, usually more than 20 teeth filled down in one day which could only be achieved by superhuman and apparently turkish dentists. Keep in mind we are working with tiny objects with 1cm diameter in a heavily constricted space. We often use magnification and to achieve minimally invasive preparations it takes time and a lot of effort. My personal best is 10 crowns in 1 day after which I needed a day off to relax before going back to work. Now imagine double that, only way to achieve it is if you are not following basic rules for preps and overprep the teeth. Last but not least these cowboy dentists who think placing zygomatic/ pterygoid implants can be done on the fly with no planning and 3D imaging. We live in an era of digitalisation and analogue is considered outdated. Our greatest benefit from this is the possibility of producing surgical guides. Only if the surgeon had made the right choice to not operate without a guide, the life of his patient wouldn't have been put in danger. Simple as that! Primum non nocere. Please if you are considering going abroad for your treatments give us a call and have a chat with us first. We will give you valuable advice and will guide you in the right direction. Don't forget you are just a number for these practices, a bank account that can be used and easily disposed of because of the distance and language barrier. For us you are family from the moment you walk in. We cannot offer all inclusive hotel stay and airport transfers but we guarantee you will be proud of you choice and will keep your smile for years and years.
