We’re excited to be running workshops at the FREE Transition Junior event in Inverurie 🤩
📆 Thursday 4th September 16:30-18:00
📍 Inverurie Community Campus

Our Speech and Language Therapy team will be delivering 2️⃣ different workshops:
✅ Makaton in action: everyday activities using Makaton 👐
✅ Sound it out: developing phonological awareness skills to support literacy and speech sound development ✍️ 👄 💬

There are a range of other great workshops available from different services and organisations 😀

Bookings now open – Transition Junior 2025

Active Schools Inverurie, the Live Life Outdoors Cycle Base, Inverurie Community Campus and partners across the Central Early Years Forum are pleased to confirm the return of Transition Junior.

📅 Thursday 4 September 2025, 4.30–6pm
📍 Inverurie Community Campus

This event is for parents of children due to start Primary 1 in the Inverurie school network and will include workshops from services such as Speech and Language Therapy, Bookbug (Library Services), Educational Psychology and the Vaccination Team, along with information stands.

Children can take part in activities provided by Live Life Aberdeenshire, including Multisports, Inflatable Fun and Balance to Pedal sessions.

Attendance is free, but places are limited.

This week’s top tip is for supporting little ones with the transition into primary school 😀 They might be finding it tricky knowing when they’ll be in school and when they’ll be at home over the next few weeks 🏫 🏠
✅ Use pictures, drawings or symbols to help them understand 💭 You can simply add drawings to your own paper calendar or sticky notes, or save and print these images 📆 🖨

Using visual supports is a great way to support understanding and independence with everyday activities and routines 😀
✅ Make your own visual supports this week and practise using them ahead of returning to school or nursery soon 😀 Sticky notes are a great way to do this if you don’t have a printer 🗒🖊 Remove each sticky note as that ‘step’ is completed to help them work through the sequence 😀
