Our Inverurie Day Opportunities group have been busy creating their very own Happy Garden 🌸🌿

The group headed out to collect leaves, branches and flowers to use in their creations, bringing a real piece of nature into their artwork 🌼

Using creativity, teamwork and a splash of colour, everyone got involved in designing and painting their pieces. Activities like this help build confidence, encourage self-expression and most importantly… have fun together 💙

We can’t wait to see the finished garden come to life!

Today marks an exciting moment for Grampian Opportunities.

We are proud to launch FREE TO BE ME, a new pilot funded by The National Lottery to support unpaid carers across Aberdeenshire, one of Scotland’s most rural, dispersed and underserved regions.
Unpaid carers are the backbone of Scotland’s health and social care system, yet the reality is that many feel unheard, unsupported and exhausted.
Current evidence highlights the scale of need:
• Around 694,000 people in Scotland provide unpaid care, according to the Scottish Health Survey 2019–2023
• The 2022 Census recorded 627,700 unpaid carers, a 27.5% increase since 2011
• Unpaid carers’ support is valued at £15.9 billion per year in Scotland, equivalent to the cost of a second NHS
• 48% of unpaid carers have cut back on essentials such as food and heating, and 35% have taken on debt due to caring responsibilities
• Many unpaid carers report poor physical and mental health, isolation and financial strain
In Aberdeenshire, the rural context amplifies these challenges, long travel distances, limited public transport, reduced access to respite, and fewer local services mean that carers often shoulder the weight of care with very little support.
We are not here to duplicate value work being carried out by other organisations we are here to support. If you or your organisation works with unpaid carers and would like to would like to partner with us, reach carers in your community, or explore how this project could help someone you know, please get in touch.
Together, we can build an Aberdeenshire where every unpaid carer feels free to be who they are, not just who they care for.
