MEDALS GOING HOME!
A WW1 pair award to Edward William Hulks.

Edward was born on July 28th 1893 in Southwark, London. His father, James, was 36 and his mother, Mary, was 40. The 1901 census shows the family living at 59 Yalding Road in Bermondsey. Edward is still living there in 1911 but the census now shows us that he is working as an Assisting Signalman aged 17 and we can also.find his record in the Railway Employment Record of 1908.

In 1916 Edward married Edith Emily Whalley at St James' Church in Bermondsey which looks like an amazing church. At the time Edward was working as a warehouseman. We can see that his father was a leather dresser however he is recorded as deceased. Edwards brother Frederick Charles was a witness.

Edward served during WW1 with the Royal Field Artillery. His soldier number 178886.

After the war Edward returned to his family and we can find them on the 1921 census living at 8 Nutbourne Street in Queens Park. His job looks like 'Storeman of bacon'. The family were still living there in 1939.

He died in December 1982 in Peacehaven, Sussex, at the age of 89.

His medals are now with his grandson.
