Funeral attire today.

While black remains a popular choice, today’s funerals are often more personalised. Families sometimes ask guests to wear a loved one’s favourite colour or dress in a way that reflects their personality. For example, a vibrant floral dress might feel just as fitting at a celebration of life as a traditional black suit.

Some funerals now focus less on formality and more on creating a warm and comfortable environment. It’s becoming more common to see people in casual or colourful outfits, especially when the family encourages attendees to wear something meaningful.

This has led many to ask: “Do I have to wear black to a funeral?” The answer depends on the wishes of the family. While black or dark colours like navy, grey or dark green are still safe options, it’s always best to check if there’s a specific dress code.

Today is a reminder that sometimes, less truly is more.

On National Simplicity Day, we reflect on the value of a simpler approach to life — and, for some families, that includes how they say goodbye to a loved one.

A direct cremation offers a respectful and dignified option without the formality of a traditional service, allowing families to say goodbye in a way that feels right for them.

If you're considering a simpler farewell or just want to understand the options available, our team is here and happy to help.

A remembrance poem or funeral reading can be a meaningful way to say goodbye to a loved one — offering comfort, reflection, and a lasting connection.

One popular choice is “I’m There Inside Your Heart” — a touching poem that captures the feeling of love that lives on, even after someone has gone.

Right now I’m in a different place
And though we seem apart
I’m closer than I ever was,
I’m there inside your heart.
I’m with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright
I’m there to share the sunsets, too
I’m with you every night.
I’m with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall
I’ll still be there for you.
And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I’ll smile and hold you close to me,
Forever in my heart.

Not Sure What to Say When Someone’s Grieving?

Finding the right words after someone has lost a loved one can be incredibly difficult. Many of us worry about saying the wrong thing — but often, just reaching out can mean the world.

A few simple, heartfelt words can offer real comfort during a painful time. If you're unsure how to begin, here are some gentle phrases that can help:

• “I’m so sorry for your loss.”
• “You and your loved one are in my thoughts and prayers.”
• “This is so sad to hear — I’m thinking of you and your family.”
• “If you want to talk at any time, I’m here.
• “Shocked and saddened by this news. If you need anything, I’m here.”

You don’t need the perfect words — just your care and presence. 💜
