The wonderful folk at the have asked for our help fundraising to restore a 1922 Eastern Counties Bus that carried on its side the first ever advertisement for A J Rawling Opticians!
Shown in the photograph below (taken we think in Shotley) the bus was discovered in a barn in Witnesham in 2013 and donated to the museum the next year.
Extensive restoration work has already taken place but they have a long way to go with the project and need more funds to bring it back to its former glory so it can go on display for the people of Ipswich again.
If you can donate any sum, however small, please follow the link to the crowd funding page. Also if you have any information on the DX 3535 or other old photos we’d love to hear from you.

We are raising funds to complete the restoration of our 1922 Tilling Stevens, Petrol-Electric bus, with body built by Ransomes in Ipswich.

This week, new research commissioned by Glaucoma UK revealed the growing glaucoma crisis in the UK. More than 1.1 million people over 40 are currently living with the disease, which is nearly 50% higher than previous estimates.
With an ageing population and higher risk groups increasing in number, cases are projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2060, far outpacing population growth. The researchers conclude that the expansion of eye health services and encouraging regular eye tests for early diagnosis will be critical in reducing glaucoma-related sight loss.

We're a few weeks into the new year - a good time to check in on your eye health.
If you've noticed headaches, tired eyes, or changes in vision, an eye exam can help identify what's going on and keep your prescription up to date.

We would love to track down the old eye sign that used to hand outside the practice when we were in the Buttermarket in the 1960s and put it up outside our Northgate Street premises. Does anybody know what happened to it? Could it be in a cellar below one of those shops now? If you’ve seen our old 👁️ please get in touch….🤞🏼
