Following the recent UK Government funding announcement, here is our hospice’s statement:
Judi Newman, Chief Executive Officer at St Elizabeth Hospice said: “We welcome the government’s latest announcement of additional £25 million capital investment for the hospice sector.
“The environment in which palliative care is delivered is very important. The funding awarded to St Elizabeth Hospice will support our ability to continue delivering high-quality, compassionate care for people living with progressive and life-limiting illness across East and Mid Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
“As a charity, we are committed to developing our services so we can support more people when they need us most, regardless of their postcode.
“This includes our ambition to build a new community hospice in Gorleston, helping to address unmet need and improve access to hospice care in this area. The additional capital funding will support this ambition.
“While we are grateful for this one-off government capital investment, the ongoing challenge of funding day-to-day hospice care remains a national concern.
“Each year, St Elizabeth Hospice has to raise £12 million to keep our services running and we continue to rely on the generosity of our local communities to do so.
“We are encouraged by the government’s plans for a Modern Service Framework to improve palliative and end-of-life care and we will continue to contribute to ongoing conversations around sustainable, long-term funding for hospice care in the UK.”
