GILMOUR PIPER

GILMOUR PIPER Welcome to Gilmour Piper. Delivering musculoskeletal healthcare for over 30 years.

We are proud to have supported and provide consultancy to Olympic athletes, Premiership Footballers, and clients such as Ipswich T

own Football Club, Colchester United Football Club, Suffolk County Cricket Association and The Wolsey Theatre. To this end we often have multidisciplinary meetings to discuss complex cases. These meetings are regularly attended by our Spinal Surgeons Mr David Sharp and Mr Robert Lovell, our musculoskeletal physician Dr Simon Harley, Osteopaths Mark Piper, James Zarro and Luke Jackman and Physiotherapists Marc Rapkin, Mark Newman and Jane Rapkin.

Welcome Charlie 👋

Charlie qualified as a Physiotherapist (with honours) from Keele University in 2000.
She specialised in Paediatrics in 2002, and since then has honed her skills working with children and young people with a large variety of problems inclusive of respiratory, neurological, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions, and spending more than 15 years as part of the MDT treating children with cancer locally within her NHS work.
Since 2019, she has been one of a small number of physiotherapists within Suffolk who’s achieved a position as an ‘extended scope’ practitioner (working beyond the physiotherapist’s normal scope) in Children’s Orthopaedics. For example, this may involve requesting investigations such as X-rays, MRI scans and blood tests, and using the results to assist clinical diagnosis and management/treatment options.
Charlie’s NHS work means that she has built strong relationships with GPs and Consultants in the local area. She believes this is invaluable when dealing with patients with more complex conditions who need input from different healthcare teams.
Within her current NHS role, she is currently launching a physiotherapy-led triage service for young people with suspected scoliosis, as well as leading the physiotherapy aspects of the local CTEV and DDH services. She is on the committee of the recently launched UK Clubfoot Network. Furthermore, her work as a clinical specialist involves a teaching and educational role for physiotherapists and medical staff within the NHS setting.
Charlie’s vast experience and clinical expertise allows her to diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions in children, and she is an expert in the effects of growth on the musculoskeletal system.
Away from work, Charlie is a busy mum of 3, and is an integral part of the junior cricket set-up at East Bergholt Cricket Club. She has a brown belt in kickboxing, and has previously played tennis and netball at club level. Since an injury in 2022, Charlie has been swimming and using the gym regularly.

Good luck Maria!

A massive good luck to Maria 'Wheelie' Whelan who is off to New Zealand on Friday to play for All Ireland in the Masters 55s Women’s Hockey World Cup. She has been training with me at GILMOUR PIPER putting the finishing touches to her preparation. She is in incredible shape – I bruised myself bumping into her shoulder last session 😅 . Words cannot describe the journey she has been on to get here and I am beyond proud of all her efforts, and it has been such a privilege to have worked with her over these past few years. She makes a far better job than me of telling her story: her book https://justgiving.com/page/wheelies-world-victoriagallantree?fbclid=IwY2xjawGMx9lleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHdo6ecrhgiGflXSMvk4YE9B7stTrp6hsyFrzqHh2avewHOavC_T6qivpiQ_aem_iV5UEWlHdnqd14HGE816Bw says it all, and proceeds to Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, Cancer Wellbeing and Information East Suffolk & North Essex Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centres.

Patients often tell us that the reason they put off coming to see us, is that they didn't want people to notice that they were wearing hearing aids.

It's ironic because someone struggling to hear, constantly asking for repetition, is often seen as more noticeable than someone effortlessly engaging in conversation whilst wearing hearing aids.

Let's change the narrative together! If you or a loved one are having difficulty hearing, then please give us a call to book a no obligation hearing assessment, and see how we can help.
