In November 2022, 22.0% of young people aged 17 to 24 years in England have a probable mental disorder according to NHS Digital. If you are worried about a young adult, or you are one and are struggling, then it maybe a good time to talk about how to cope. When not addressed, anxiety can become a chronic life time burden. I aim to help you understand anxiety and how to cope which can just help make life easier.

Did you make any resolutions this year?

How are they going?

Do you know that this time next week, more resolutions will be broken than any other day…. It’s just over half way through January and resolve can start to weaken.

Whether you wanted to stop biting your nails, lose weight or to start a new more positive approach to work or life in general, you don’t have to go it alone. Hypnotherapy is firmly rooted in science and I have helped dozens of people make positive changes and stick to them. It’s about retraining your mind and crucially getting your subconscious on board. It’s the most powerful part of your mind and accessing it is key to genuinely changing habits or behaviours.

If willpower alone isn’t working for you, it’s no surprise at all to me. If you want to do something different, you need to try something different. Message me and I’d be happy to talk to you about how I can help you in less time than you might think.

If you’re someone who suffers with work-related stress (and there’s plenty of statistics that suggest that it’s a lot of people!), I’m sure you’ve been told one of the following things:

- Everyone feels stressed sometimes – it’s just part of the job
Or
- If it’s causing you this much stress, you should quit

I know people mean well when they say those things – they’re being supportive and they care.

But, I’d say something different – it’s not about accepting it or quitting the job – it’s about making sure you can do your job (if you want, to of course) without feeling stressed.

And I’m not saying it without a way of making sure you can do that.

I have supported many people to get rid of the feeling of stress that the thought they needed to put up with.

Solution focused hypnotherapy is a really powerful tool when it comes to this kind of shift.

If you want to feel different, you need to do something different. Message me to find out more.

On yet another diet and counting calories and constantly thinking about food…?😩

If you want different results, you have to do something different (and it was Albert Einstein who said that if you’re in any doubt!).

Solution focused hypnotherapy beats willpower every single time as it gets your subconscious on-board to do the hard work for you.🙌

There’s real truth in the saying that if you want to see different results, you need to do different things!

Whether you want to:
💥Kick a habit that doesn’t serve you
💥Get rid of anxiety
💥Feel in control so that stress doesn’t take over
💥Want to hit a new goal
Or
💥Finally stop being affected by trauma that’s left you with PTSD

It’s time to take steps to make it happen.

You’ve probably already tried a few ways to make that change - self-help books, podcasts, meditation and relaxation techniques maybe.

But…if they haven’t helped, I want to reassure you that it doesn’t mean you can’t achieve what you want to.

Our brain is complex and sometimes reading books, or listening to advice doesn’t quite get you to where you want to be and that’s where personalised one to one help (which is impossible to get from a book or podcast) comes in.

I help people to make changes that actually stick, and which happen in a relatively short space of time so, feel free to message me if you’d like to find out more about how I could help you, or someone you care about to live 2022 the way they want to.

Farwell 2021….

To all my clients and followers - Happy New Year and best wishes for 2022.

Thank you for supporting the Peterson Practice this year and I hope that the next 12 months are everything you want them to be.

Please know that if you or someone you care about is finding their anxiety unexpectedly challenging this week that you aren’t alone.

Anxiety can be triggered by a number of things and Christmas and New Year brings a huge number of triggers into our space….

Noisy gatherings, bright flashing lights and sudden noises, chaotic days, less routine than normal, time spent with lots of people, spending more time at home than usual, visiting family in homes we may have lived in before, increasing amounts of alcohol and food being around us….

And the list goes on….

The problem with triggers is that whilst we try to avoid them, we can’t control every situation.
What you can do, is seek support to deal with your anxiety or PTSD so that you can live without fear of unexpected encounters with your triggers.

I’ve helped dozens of people to do just that. DM me if you want to find out how I work and to take the first step away from anxiety.

There’s something about this week between Christmas and New Year that makes us reflect on the year almost done, and to look at what we want from the year ahead.

I’m going to be really honest…. if you want something different from 2022 than 2021, you need to ‘do’ something different….

For example, if you want to leave behind:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Trauma

Or change
- Your confidence
- Your self-belief
- Your outlook on life

You need to take steps to make it happen.

You’ve probably already tried a few ways to make that change - self-help books, podcasts, meditation and relaxation techniques maybe.

But…if they haven’t helped, I want to reassure you that it doesn’t mean your anxiety can’t be treated.

Anxiety can be complex and sometimes reading books, or listening to advice doesn’t quite get you to where you want to be and that’s where personalised one to one help (which is impossible to get from a book or podcast) comes in.

It can feel like walking on eggshells trying to have a conversation with someone who is struggling with anxiety, and if you’ve ever been in that position, you’ve probably asked lots of these questions in your own head:
Have they had a good day?
Is now a good time?
How can I bring up a problem?
Should I ask how he/she is?
Should I offer to help?

This time of year can really bring things to a head for people and if you are worried about someone and are struggling to find the right way to help, the acronym SHUSH can be helpful:
S – show you care – make time for someone to talk to you. be engaged if they do rather than distracted with other things
H – have patience – allow time for someone to talk. It’s sometimes our instinct to try and solve someone’s problems but giving space is so important here
U – use open questions - ‘How can I support you’ or ‘Tell me more’ opens up the conversation and allows anything to be said rather than asking questions that lead to more simplistic answers
S- say it back – show your understanding by explaining ‘so what I have heard you saying is……’ so that the person who is sharing their feelings knows they have been understood.
H – have courage – it’s hard to have these kinds of conversations. Be brave enough to ask what someone needs and to listen to what they say.

If you are increasingly worried about someone and want to understand whether I could help, please message me here to find out more.

Happy end of school term…. I just wanted to pop on and say that you don’t need to put all the pressure on yourself to ‘create magic’. A teacher shared this recently on Facebook and it’s so true – talking to my own, now adult, children, about childhood Christmases brought up memories of the time we spent together – hot chocolate in front of the fire being a particular favourite.
Do things your way, don’t feel pressured to do everything you see on other people’s social media – enjoy your break.

All couples experience stress – maybe related to work, money or family. But it can also be a feature in a relationship where we have different wants or needs, or we don’t feel seen or heard, and 2021 has created tension in lots of households.

It can feel as if there’s no way out of the cycle of stress but I wanted to share three questions that you can ask yourself to help bring clarity to what might be causing the stress and what might be needed to move past it.

1) What does my partner need – what is it that is causing stress for them. Do they need space, understanding or forgiveness for example? Asking your partner ‘what do you need?’ can avoid us making assumptions based on what we might need ourselves?
2) What do I need – is it to be heard, to see a change made or to have time to reflect?
3) What do we need? Is it time together? Is it time apart? Is it a shared goal?
You could use these questions to talk to your partner about what is causing stress for you both to help you see each other’s point of view and create a shared way forwards that can work for you both individually and as a partnership.

About the Peterson Practice

It’s not uncommon to feel as if something is holding you back from doing what you really want to do. Maybe you want to be more in control of your feelings - managing stress or anxiety so that you can be more successful in your work or personal life? Perhaps it’s related to losing weight, personal or sports performance or even giving up smoking?

You may well have tried a few things…perhaps you have read self-help books, listened to podcasts or focused on meditation and relaxation. All of these are perfectly valid and might have given you an outlet or some techniques that you’ve found useful.

Sometimes though, it doesn’t quite get you to where you want to be and that’s where personalised one to one help (which is impossible to get from a book or podcast) comes in.

I am Peter and I am passionate about helping people to overcome the challenges that hypnotherapy and psychotherapy can conquer. I love working with people of all ages from teenagers and young adults to older clients (my oldest so far has been 95). Whatever you would like to change I would be delighted to see you and start the journey with you, whether it is lifting your self confidence, managing you anxiety, helping you cope with life or taking back control.
