Recent studio upgrade

I’ve always had it in mind to create a warm and welcoming environment, as my previous setups felt a little cold and clinical. With business expansion now underway, it felt like the right time to create a space that truly reflects that vision.

Alongside this upgrade, a second recovery room is also in progress, which I’m hopeful will be ready in the coming weeks.

I hope you enjoy the new space and feel even more relaxed here.

For those who have been clients of mine over the past four years, you’ll know that I’ve been studying at university alongside running the business. A question that often comes up is: “What exactly are you studying? What do you actually learn on a nutrition degree, is it just meal plans? And what are you going to do with it afterwards?”

This year I want to give a deeper, behind-the-scenes look at my final year of study. If you’re interested in nutrition, health, or just fancy a little nosey at where I hope to take the business next, then this series is for you.

The first episode of the University Vlog is now live on McLaughlin Health YouTube channel. Subscribe and join me on the journey…

Jaw pain, clicking, or tension around the face and neck? These are issues I hear about often in the treatment room, and they can sometimes be linked to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

I’ve just uploaded my first long-form YouTube video where I share my own experience with TMJ and what helped me. This isn’t medical advice, it is just my personal journey and what I found useful.

If you deal with TMJ symptoms or know someone who does, this might be worth a watch.

Alongside health and recovery content, I’ll also be starting a vlog series documenting my final year studying Nutrition at university, giving a behind-the-scenes look at the process and sharing what I’m learning along the way.

Thanks for the support, and if you find the video helpful, feel free to like, comment, or subscribe.

Muscle knots don’t exist… at least, not in the way you’ve been told.

That tight, lumpy spot you feel in your neck, back, or shoulders isn’t your muscle twisted into a knot. Muscles can’t physically do that.

What you might be feeling could include:
• Trigger points – small, irritable spots within muscle fibres
• Increased muscle tone – protective tension from stress, overuse, or injury
• Fascial stiffness – changes in connective tissue that reduce movement

Massage can help by:
• Supporting reduced nervous system tension
• Encouraging improved blood flow and nutrient delivery
• Aiding normal muscle and fascia mobility

It doesn’t “untie” anything. Instead, it can help your body relax, move more freely, and feel better.

💬 Have you ever been told you had a “knot”? Share below.

DO NOTHING, REST...

“Don't fall into the trap of thinking that doing nothing means doing nothing for you.

That being unproductive is unproductive for you.

We've become so accustomed to being busy, so accustomed to doing things with visible results, so accustomed to pacing and recording our activity and crossing things off our to-do lists, that we've forgotten the importance of rest.

"Doing nothing" and being "unproductive" are actually doing something productive.

They're helping you recharge.

Recover.

Reading a magazine or taking a bath or sitting in the garden with a cup of coffee are not wasted time.

Rest time is not wasted time.

We are not machines. We are not robots.

We're not here to work,
move, and do things constantly.

We are human beings.

And sometimes we just need to be”

Reduce Your Risk of Back Pain! When it comes to preventing back pain, building strength and endurance in the spinal muscles is an effective evidence-based strategy. Here are two simple and effective exercises that help strengthen the back without excessive load or fatigue—making them ideal for long-term injury prevention and spinal health. 1. Back Extensions (with a tweak): By keeping your ribcage stacked over your pelvis—rather than flaring the ribs—you maintain better spinal alignment and improve core engagement. This allows your lower back muscles to work more efficiently during the lift. 👉 Perform 3 sets of 8–12 reps, stopping just short of failure. When done correctly, this movement can be surprisingly challenging even without added resistance.🔹 2. Side Bends (QL Activation):This exercise targets the quadratus lumborum (QL)—a deep core stabiliser that connects the pelvis to the lower spine and helps with lateral flexion and postural control. It can be hard to isolate, but side bends are a great way to engage it functionally.👉 Aim for 3 sets of 8–12 reps, and feel free to add a light weight to increase the challenge. These movements can be included 2x per week either as part of a dynamic warm-up at low intensity or as accessory work to your main strength session.Looking after your spine now = better movement, fewer aches, and more resilience later.
