Heartstart Ayrshire & Arran

Heartstart Ayrshire & Arran Providing Free Emergency Life Support Training Every year in Scotland around 3000 people suffer from an out of hospital cardiac arrest and only 1 in 10 survive.

One of the reasons for this low survival rate is not enough people know emergency lifesaving skills. Heartstart offer free Emergency Life Support training to members of the public throughout Ayrshire. By taking the time to learn these simple skills you could save a life one day. Onsite training can be delivered to groups of 8 or more. Community classes are available for individual bookings or smaller groups.

If you know CPR, you have the power to save lives in your community.

By registering as a Goodsam responder, you could be alerted to nearby cardiac arrests and provide help before emergency services arrive.

We know that early CPR is key, and you could be that link in the chain of survival that makes all the difference.

Small actions can make a huge difference in a cardiac arrest ❤️

Something as simple as putting your phone on speaker when you call 999 gives you both hands free to check for breathing and start CPR without delay.

It’s a small change that could help save a life.

A new report from the Scottish Ambulance Service highlights activity and outcomes following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) across Scotland between April 2024 and March 2025.

Published on behalf of the Delivery Group for Save a Life for Scotland, the report shares national data, tracks progress, and helps identify where further improvements are needed to save more lives.

By openly sharing this information, partners across Scotland can better understand the challenges communities face and continue strengthening the Chain of Survival.

When someone has a cardiac arrest, every second counts. The quicker someone steps in to help, the greater their chance of surviving.

But only 35% of people say they would feel confident stepping in during an emergency like this.

That’s why building public confidence and increasing CPR knowledge is so important. The more people who feel prepared to help, the more lives we can save together.
