Our young people have been having a great time getting outside, enjoying the fresh air, and having a kickabout together. Activities like this are a great way to build confidence, stay active, and most importantly - have fun! 🙌

🌿 Wightoak Wisdom 🌿

“Real friends don’t pressure you, use you or make you feel unsafe.”

As we come to the end of Relationship Focus Month, this message is one we’ll keep coming back to with our young people.

Understanding what healthy relationships look like isn’t always easy, especially when boundaries can be tested. That’s why we work closely with our young people to help them recognise the signs of respect, trust and safety - and just as importantly, the signs when something isn’t right.

No one should feel pressured, used, or unsafe in any relationship.

Although this month has highlighted these conversations, our commitment doesn’t stop here. At Wightoak, we will continue supporting our young people to build confidence, set boundaries, and know their worth every single day.

🌟 Our Inspirational Care Leaver of the Month 🌟

At Wightoak Youth, we believe every young person deserves to see what’s possible beyond their circumstances. That’s why each month we highlight an Inspirational Care Leaver - someone who has experienced care but gone on to leave their mark on the world. 💫

This isn’t just about celebrating success. It’s about showing our young people that their past does not define their future. The challenges they’ve faced can become part of their strength, their story, and their journey forward.

✨ This month, we’re spotlighting Marilyn Monroe ✨

Before she became a global icon, Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson) experienced a difficult childhood in the care system. She spent much of her early life in foster homes and an orphanage, moving between placements and facing instability from a young age.

Despite these early challenges, she went on to become one of the most famous actresses in the world; known for her talent, resilience, and unforgettable presence in films like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot. 🎬

Her story reminds us that even when life begins with uncertainty, it doesn’t limit where you can go. Strength, determination, and belief in yourself can open doors you never imagined.

Recently at Wightoak Youth, one of our young people took on a new challenge in the kitchen - learning how to make a quiche from scratch! 🥧

From cracking eggs to choosing their own fillings, they showed great focus, patience, and independence throughout the process. Cooking is a brilliant way to build confidence and life skills, and it’s always a bonus when there’s something delicious to enjoy at the end! 🤤

We’re really proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown! Safe to say, the quiche went down a treat! 👏

A few of our young people have been getting stuck into some planting 🌱

Nothing fancy – just getting outside, learning a few basics, and having a go at growing something themselves. Good to see them taking ownership of it and actually enjoying it too ❤️

We’ll see what comes of it over the next few weeks 👀

🗳️ Young Voices MATTER — and we’re making sure they are heard!

At Wightoak Youth Services, we’re getting our Young People ready for the upcoming May local elections. From understanding how voting works to why it’s so important, we’re supporting them every step of the way.

Many of the young people we work with haven’t always felt heard - but this is their chance to have a say in decisions that affect their lives, their communities, and their futures.

We’ll be helping them register, build confidence, and head to the polls - because every voice deserves to count.

A bit of sunshine and a productive session ☀️

We love spending some time working 1:1 with a Young Person to complete their AQA Independence Skills units, covering topics like budgeting, handling household emergencies, and keeping yourself healthy.

We focus on this because these are the skills Young People need as they move towards independence - helping them feel more prepared and confident for when they step out on their own.

Small moments can grow into something bigger 🌱
Not all exploitation is obvious, sometimes it starts with favours, gifts, or someone being “too nice.”

We've been making the most of the sunshine lately ☀️

Spending more time outdoors with our Young People, getting some seeds planted and just enjoying being out in the fresh air.

Simple stuff, but it makes a difference 🌱 Good to slow things down a bit and get stuck into something hands-on.

We hope everyone had a lovely Easter and a chance to relax over the long weekend.

Our young people marked the occasion with a visit from the Easter Bunny, and some enjoyed making their own Easter treats 🍫
