Mindful eating can be incredibly helpful.
How many of you eat a chocolate bar or a slice of cake very quickly?
Often, we rush these foods because we feel guilty, as though we “shouldn’t” be having them.
But there shouldn’t be guilt or strict rules around food — food is just food.
ALL foods have their place.
There are no “good” or “bad” foods, no “clean” or “dirty” foods.
Some foods do need to be eaten more often because their nutrients support our health.
Other foods, when enjoyed in moderation, are equally important for pleasure, social connection, and mental wellbeing.
Food is part of celebrations, traditions, comfort, and life events — avoiding certain foods entirely is unrealistic.
So instead, we can learn how to live with all foods without letting them negatively impact our health or weight.
One helpful strategy is mindful eating.
If there’s something you enjoy but normally feel guilty about, try this:
• Choose a time when you can sit down and relax
• Remove distractions
• Eat slowly and really notice the flavours, textures, and smells
When you take your time, you’re more likely to truly enjoy it, feel satisfied, and avoid the urge to keep wanting more.
You’ve made a conscious choice, in a mindful setting, to enjoy that food — and that alone can change the whole experience.
I hope this helps.
