It’s mental health awareness week in the UK (month in the USA) so it’s that time when Brian makes his twice yearly yellow tinged visit to remind us about his thought on mental health.

And of course you’ll know my thoughts: mental health isn’t just for weeks, days or years: your mental health is important every day of every year.

And while Brian may be a brain, mental health is not just about individuals and looking after your own brain and bodies (although of course this is very VERY important). Mental is also a collective responsibility because mental health is about society. It is about inequity, discrimination, opportunity, healthcare and politics, because these factors, and others, impact on mental health and are as important to consider as individual factors which impact on mental health.
Of course mental health is about nurturing ourselves and creating the individual circumstances in which we can thrive, but mental health is also about nurturing our society and creating the collective circumstances which allows humans to thrive.
