The Business starts this month at MacArts

"The Business" is a training programme at MacArts designed to prepare you for a career in the entertainment industry.

🗓Wednesday 24th September 2025

Training will be provided by industry professionals and areas covered will include -
Sound engineering
Lighting
Video and photography
Social media and Marketing
Events management
Meet the performers

All aspects of the course will relate directly to a show by a touring band to be held at MacArts later in the year. Attendees and a guest will be invited to attend this show.

Participants requirements either-
Unemployed,
Have no positive destination (eg they are leaving school or college without something to go on to)
Homeless
A refugee
Contact us for more info on this if required

We will help with:
The necessary paperwork
Cover travel costs for anyone not in receipt of free travel
Provide a light lunch, tea and coffee

Times :
7 Wednesdays starting 24/9
10.30 -13.45 with a 45 min lunch
Participants are expected to attend all sessions to get a broad understanding of the industry

With the ever growing interest and respect around the world for the rock music genre known as the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal means there’s never been a better time to celebrate the music of those pioneering bands from the era.

We have succeeded in bringing together a group of musicians that were key members of some of the biggest bands of that time to faithfully perform many of those classic songs that are now a major part of rock music history.

Members of Praying Mantis, Diamond Head, Raven, Tank, and Persian Risk have come together to create LORDS OF NWOBHM.

The set list will feature classic tracks from the above bands plus a carefully curated selection of songs from several of the other iconic artists from the era to make this the ultimate NWOBHM show
The official LORDS OF NWOBHM line up comprises
Tino Troy (Praying Mantis - guitar)
John Gallagher (Raven - bass)
Karl Wilcox (Diamond Head - drums)
Cliff Evans (Tank - guitar)
Carl Sentance (Persian Risk - vocals).

Two shows are already booked for Tokyo, Japan in January 2026 and more dates will be announced soon.

First time roasting an Indian roast.

The Monsoon Malabar bean, picked in the Malabar region of India (one of the wettest regions of southern India) undergoes an especially unique process to bring out the bean's fullest flavours.
Straight after being harvested the Malabar beans are transported to open warehouses along the Malabar Coast, where they will be exposed to the harsh, moist winds of the area's monsoons for around three to four months. While they are stored in these open warehouses, the beans retain moisture from the monsoons and swell in size, losing much of their acidity in the process, resulting in a heavy bodied coffee that displays a wonderfully mellow flavour.

A bit trickier to roast with being a less dense bean and having to roast with a lower initial temperature.

Extremely happy with the outcome though with a strong taste with none of the bitter after tones.
